Need a fiberglass/foil heat shield wrap for the starter on my
1988 Shelby Z.

Would like one that is in good condition.

Please LMK what you might have and how much.

Thanks,
Tony

+1, Unless you're looking for originality, the Summit one is better than the stocker.

Is that better? Velcro? I guess you could do it on the lower side of the starter...

Velco on the bottom should be ok. Not sure that the velcro is better but the sheild style and material is. :thumb:

I actually have a new factory heat shield, just don't have the clip. Otherwise, I would use it. Although the newer starters I have purchased have a built on heat shield. Not sure if they are good or not, only time will tell.

It kind of depends on the car.. My CSX used to eat starters w/o a sheild, my current T2 Shadow has no issues... crap, I just jinxed myself! ;) *knocks on wood*

Mine ate up starters until I put that heat wrap from summit on.

Better is not really the term, I mean how many mint stock starter shields can you find?

I found that wrap at my local parts store after I toasted a starter in a few months, after installing that, never again. You put the velco down at the bottom but even still, it goes all the way around. The best part is, once you size it properly, you can slide it on and off the starter and its less bulky than the stock piece.

You can find one in my garage. :D I wouldn't mind selling it, as it seems I won't be using it anytime soon. I would probably just use that stuff. Maybe someone who wants to go factory original or something would need it?

Dealer item p/n 05234376

I picked up 3 of them a month ago for about $12.00 each.

You can slide them on without to much trouble. Just got to get under the car and do it from underneath the car. Did mine while I was changing the oil.

My engine is out at this time. I'll look into the Mopar one also.

Thanks!
