That looks like the old Group B rally cars that were outlawed eventually do to them becoming to fast and too dangerous. That was back when rally cars were making over 500 bhp, whereas they're limited to 300 now by restrictors.
Moreso, that appears to be the Audi car that was driven by "The Stig," the test driver you never see the face of on Top Gear. There was an absolutely awesome article regarding that car in SCC a while back IIRC.

you're right aaron, this is....sorry was, the group B
but in the end they made well over 600bhp. audi even built an engine with over 1000bhp. it was testet in several hillclimbs, but the drivers reported that the car was completely undrivable...
you probably mean stig blomqvist...

kinda makes me miss my old 86 Coupe GT Commem Ed. It was absolutely awesome on dirt and snow even with just FWD. Makes my GLH and ShelbyZ look like Yugo's comprared to Porsche's when it came to snow and dirt. You could throw it into a corner on regular Pirelli P6's on 6" of fresh powder and drift down through the apex and power out of the corner. I always wanted to convert it to turbo and maybe try and make it AWD with a setup off a 4k. I sold it to a guy that really wanted it last summer for $500 not running. Fueling issue. Not bad for a car that was 19,600 brand new :) Maybe 1 day when all my TD projects are done I'll get a nice clean 4k CS Quat or look for a 85 S1 around here. My Coupe was the same size as my tona but weighed in at 700lbs less and had twice the rigidity. Still love my tona more though. It's a rocketship in comparison on the straight and the twisty's. Hit dirt or snow though and the roles flip flop instantly. Ok sorry for rambling.
