Black doesn't show leaks as bad but my preference is to go with a ford blue or gm orange that way if I have any leaks I can get em fixed asap

It's mainly a matter of personal preference. I went with black because I like the understated stock look.

I painted mine black. I have a whole black/polished theme going on though so I was following that. But black is the best color IMO, although I saw a 2.x block painted silver once and it looked alright.

They paint the blocks black because it hides oil leaks the best.

As for what colour-any colour you like is best.

If I paint the block, it's usually orange or blue. For the same reason already mentioned. However, I cleared the engine in the GLHS because I have a black/silver (or cast) theme going.

I paint all my engine blocks "cast aluminum" POR 15 engine paint. I get a lot of positive coments about them. It makes the 2.2 a little more modern looking.

My buddy used blue POR engine paint. It still looks excellent. He says it washes clean pretty easy.

Its been scientifically proven that hot pink will lower your oil temps by 15 degrees, so thats the wise choice;)

I say deseret sand there eef the queef (aka duche dodge) and you know why.

Mine is painted blue(kinda baby blue...) I didn't do it, the previous owner did. It doesn't actually look that bad on a white car. I might take some pics this weekend and I will post them.

If I was painting a motor, probably, clear, or silver like already mentioned.

I used chrysler copr blue. I used that dupli-color engine paint. I used the primer and then I used the color. It looks great. I will take some pix of it this weekend.

they probably mentioned the black because there is a debate that black actually disapates heat under the hood better, plus it hides dirt like everyone else mentioned

here's my new motor.

Looks like the mobil 1 filter for a 5.0 mustang. They work awesome, give you a little more oil capacity and much better filtering. I run the same thing but in a K&N filter.

Thats what it looked like to me, My 78 F-250 has that on it so it will make the trip to the autoparts store that much faster. Thanks for the input I had heard the filters were interchangeable.

Luke, if you want a BIGGER filter wihtout having it be as long as the 5.0 filters. go get a PureOne PL14670.... or just look up a filter for a 1999 Viper.

WIX and Purolator are 2 good filters. ~~Heath

You can do it, you need to fiddle and wiggle stuff but it can be done, and support the engine with a jack, of course, :eyebrows:

It's proven that dark colors radiate heat best which is why radiators are black. The effect is slight but real.

so than why are intercoolers and exhaust sliver??

John B
11-04-2006, 06:42 PM
Most factory intercoolers are black. Aftermarket IC's usually don't get painted for "bling", people want others to notice their intercooler. Exhaust tubes don't need cooling and on a turbo it can hurt if the exhaust cools too much. Don't fret too much over these things though, the effect is minor. For an all out record attempt, all the 'minors' add up to a measurable advantage, but for most of us it won't matter if our block or intercooler is black or chrome plated.

I've always noticed black absorbing heat faster? When you're outside in the middle of July at SDAC in 97* weather, if you're wearing black you're gonna sweat your nipples off.

See my gallery, mine is a mid 60s Pontiac engine color. I just always liked it sort of a semimettalic blue-green. I was told flat black for heat radiation, we do our race car engine in it.
