I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO MORE ROOM AND CANNOT BUY ANOTHER CAR!!! NO MORE EBAY, AUTOTRADER, CRAIGSLIST, FOR SALE FORUMS, ETC!!!

With that said, here is the last car I'm buying for a while. It's one of 1,595 Neons built in 1995 that were painted with the (one year only) color Nitro Yellow Green. This one is the "Sport" model with the DOHC 2.0 and a 3.94 gear 5 speed. Bought it today from the original owner. The motor was built to the hilt with forged goodies...unfortunately it only lasted 200 miles or so until it stopped running. Tons more info on the car here at it's "for sale" page.

Thanks JT...I was told that if I ever sell it, the original owner wants first dibs!

Karl, would it make you feel any better if I said you can wrench on it for me? Seriously, I don't know squat about these Neons.

The intake doesn't look stock. Why? Forged and still n/a?? Need more specs. No ABS :( ABS rules on those cars. Love the color and the engine/tranny option. HATE the exhaust. Good luck.

Sure. Bring it out here and I can teach you the ways of Neon heaven. :)

But I will probably sit in it and not get back out. I'm more attached to NYG than Christine is to Jim's LeBaron GTS, and that's bad.

It seems that that dude did a crazy amount of work to it already. Neons are amazing. I love them. From what happened to the engine, you might want to just get a different motor at first that runs and drop it in. I don't know what the heck you want to DO with it persay, but I'll do what I can to help.

BTW, I'll trade you my GTC for it... :amen:

I like the lower half of the intake over the stock one. No ABS? To me it looks to have it, but maybe the resolution on your monitor is better. I kinda want one of those only because my girlfriend hates the colour. The battery seems to need a relocation, and you seem to be missing a computer.

I've always wanted one of those. I used to see a 4 door from time to time an older black lady drove that worked at a Taget. Peeling paint and all. Thats an awesome example though. Hopefully a piston and head will get you back on the road. Good luck!

Neons are alot more fun then people realize.

The '95's tend to be a bastard though because they are different from all of the rest. They're still easy to work on though.

You should get hotter cams though, the #12's aren't much more aggressive than stock, a set of 18's would wake it up significantly with the higher compression and head\intake\exhaust mods.

Thanks for the props...man I've wanted one of these colored cars for like 10 years now, and it helps that my wife likes the color!

Chuck (original owner) modified the stock intake and used a 4.0 Jeep throttle body...it does have the ABS...computer is lying inside the passenger compartment...cables, battery mount, and box are already relocated to the trunk (see pic)...I didn't care for the exhaust either but it's aluminum and starting grow on me...and I did get the stock fuel filler door too!

Thanks for the advice on the cams...buying a good longblock is definitely in the plan, unless I can get this fixed without machining the bottom end...and unfortunately I won't know that unless the head is off.

Who knows, it could have head/piston/block damage...I don't even really know what happened but Chuck thought he dropped a valve. He was only able to drive the car a little over 200 miles after he had the whole engine rebuilt blueprinted and balanced!

A big thanks to TurboRon for the lead...just don't give me any more! Ha ha

Damn Paul I am so glad one of us got that car. It was begging for a good home for sure and definitely not in the hands of some young blood go fast thirsty wanna be. Congrats. I've never been partial to neons in any way shape or form. From the repair standpoint we've worked on a lot of lemons when I was in auto repair. Now that I've gone the way of the mopar they seem to be pretty bulletproof. That said if I was going to get one it would have to be like the one you just aquired. The only other neons I like are the SRT4, R/T and motorsports editions. That one is definitely a keeper and how often really do you fine a 1 owner 95... GOOO Paul!

blk86trbo
04-16-2008, 10:04 PM
I paid a little more than $1500 for it. Sure, that's kinda high for a non-running car, but it's really, really clean. No paint or body damage, and the front and rear suspension was removed and powder coated. Lots of aftermarket parts, brochures, factory manuals, and the paperwork back to when it was new (picked it up from the original owner).

Should be tearing into it next week with Dodge Aries K (Karl)...hopefully we'll figure it out!

Does anyone remember (or have seen) a 1st Gen Daytona painted that color back at the Mopar Nationals in Indy around 94-95?

12 hours and counting until Karl gets here and we start the process of swapping another longblock into this Neon...heh heh heh, it's gonna be fun!

Spent the day hauling the Neon into town from my Parent's house, swapped two batteries/played musical cars getting the driveway cleared out, got the longblock out of the back of the van (the holes in the floor for the back seat are perfect mounting points for ratchet straps).

Even ran around town in the GLHS to clean off the brakes, then cooked some Hawaiian burgers on a charcoal grill with hickory woodchips for some smoke flavoring. Was a very productive day indeed.

Pics of tomorrows carnage to follow...

Sounds like fun! :thumb:

Hawaiian Burgers? *raises eyebrow*

Mix some Teriyaki sauce with ground beef (or turkey) & make into patties

Thickly slice a loaf of Hawaiian Bread (we left them in long pieces & sliced them in half after grilling)

Have a pineapple ring for each burger

Arrange it all on the grill (we use charcoal) putting the meat in the middle & the pineapple & bread around the outer edge.

Once the burgers are almost done, move them to the outside, put a slice of Swiss cheese on each & move the pineapple to the center.

Remove from grill and cut your browned bread slices in half. Splash your burgers again with Teriyaki and top them with the cooked pineapple slice.

Serve!

If you use a gas grill, you may want to wait until the burgers are almost done to put the bread on so it doesn't burn.

Thanks guys, Karl deserves the credit for pulling it. I helped but he did a majority of it, as I told him I'd hire him for the job since he's currently looking for work. We both benefited from it!

Probably will be a few weeks before I get the other engine cleaned up and the parts ready to be swapped. Unfortunately all the nice shiny parts were installed with bare bolts and they are now coated with surface rust. Which as you can imagine looks horrible with the new parts. The trans needs to be cleaned and painted too. Should look REALLY nice afterwards.

A trick with the hood to make it easier to remove engine, remove hood suport rod and hood will go back enough, then use a bungy from the steering wheel to one of the holes to hold it in place.Makes it alot easier.

Good advice Craig, I was surprised to see it swing up so far. Luckily we had enough extra hands to just hold it up.

From all the info I've gathered, the only difference between them and any other Neon you could have purchased is the paint color. "Nitro Yellow Green" was a 1995 year only color with just over 1500 vehicles optioned as such. And from there you could break the production figures down to that color as a Plymouth or Dodge, sedan or coupe, DOHC or SOHC, ACR, etc.

The more I look at the color the more it grows on me...I like to compare it to the "Sublime" color option on the older RWD Mopars. In fact, if things work out, the plates for the Neon will arrive in the mail as "SUB LYM".

Thanks for the kind words fellas, it's a fun little car and it handles like a son of a gun, but man...the aftermarket springs are stiff! It rides a little rougher than I'd prefer, although some of the young guys might enjoy it. Kinda like the solid suspension on a go cart!
