Hey guys..qeustion for you all...finally got the shelby out of storage and into my garage..well, when i was putting the car up the drive way into the garage the wheel fell off...yes...fell off...the hub just came apart....anyways, are they supose to come out like that if no axle is in there holding it in?

I went to the store today and bought a new one..and when i took the old one out, i pressed it back together like it shoul and couldn't get the damn thing apart again....WTF.....well need less to say, i didn't think it was suppose to come apart like that...am i right?

Thanks!

Yes if the axle isnt in there or the axle nut isnt tight it could/will fall off. The inside part of the wheel bearing is 2 pieces. When you tighten up the axle nut it pulls the 2 pieces together.

Yep. If you store them w/o axles, you should put a bolt and some big washers thru the hole so the wheel bearing doesnt get junky like that.

What i found works good is to use some old outer c.v. joints and put them in, it keeps the bearings good.

More than $85 bucks, you need to remove the knuckle and have the old bearing pressed out and the new one pressed in. Then you need an alignment after the knuckle is reinstalled, :banghead:

not uh. 89+ are bolt in wheel bearings :) Just unbolt them and bolt the new one in. Don't even have to remove the knuckle from the car :)

I would rather pay $85 and undo 4 bolts than $45 and have to use a hydraulic press and get another alignment and spend over an hour doing it vs 10 mins on the 4 bolt, :thumb:

How about $45 and changing the press in bearing with a $10 home-made tool, no need to mess up the alignment or take the knuckle off the car. I've done a bunch of them using a piece of 3" exhaust pipe, parts from a chinese seal installer kit, some threaded rod, a couple nuts, a few washers and some chewing gum.

Interesting, do '89/'90 Omni hubs have that kind of bearing too?

Every time a front bearing has gone out on one of my cars its taken the hub with it. I've got replacement hub assemblys both times on ebay for about $35, Chinese but they work ok.
