OK, I am looking to investigate SRT-4 Flywheel vs. 2.2L Flywheel Differences. I have the A555 bolted to the 2.4L in the Z and am curious about the SRT-4 flywheel options. Not the factory modular clutch flywheel, but the aftermarket ones... do any of them resemble a 2.2L/2.5L flywheel? Pics?

This thread has quite a bit of info:

I am not sure if it covers the SRT in enough detail though.

Are SRT's large spline?

Yes, the T-850 in the SRT-4 is the same spline as the T-III disk. I know teh SRT-4 has teh wierd modular clutch and a different style flywheel cuz of it so my question is more the flywheel differences with aftermarket SRT-4 flywheels so maybe a T-III clutch can be used on the SRT-4 one?

Interesting, I was surfing EBay and there are some wicked SRT clutch kit deals with old school flywheels. Just need to see the differences when Alan posts up.

I'm using a standard common block flywheel with my old McCloud clutch.

I don't know what you are getting at, but I don't see any reason NOT to use the older flywheel setup....

Covered this with Carlos (lotsaboost) over on TD a while back. Short and sweet is that you can use an srt-4 clutch package or a TD package interchangeably, behind a 2.2 or a 2.4 with either a large spline 523/568 or even a t-850 if you wanted.

Yes. The 2.2/2.5 flywheel will bolt right up to the 2.4. In fact, all the mounting dimensions are identical to the old turbo Dodge engines. It would be as if you were mounting the trans. to the old common block as far as spec's go. That is why I was able to use both the SRT-4 modular clutch setup and the turbo Dodge.

Man, I'm trying...Believe me, I'm trying! So much going on this summer.
If there was ever a project I've ever wanted to get done it's this one.
Ooooooh so close.

Please clarify this. With a 2.4l you can use an SRT4 modular clutch AND a 520 or 555. The splines are the same on the input shafts?

I thought that it was either/ or not mix and mtach meaning the 520/555 must be used with a standard flywheel and clutch pressure plate OR you can bolt a neon mdular clutch with 850 trans to the 2.2/2.5 block for higher power capabilities.

What is the facts.

As Starman clarified, the only difference is in the clutch disc itself. '90 and earlier had the small input shaft and '91 and later had the larger input shaft.

You can use any of the early turbo Dodge manual transmissions with either the turbo Dodge flywheel/clutch or the SRT-4 modular clutch system on the 2.4, you just need to match the clutch disc with the proper diameter input shaft. The 850 will not readily work with the common block as the starter will not clear the intermediate shaft hump/distributor drive in front of the block.

Carlos,

You used a 2.2/2.5 flexplate with the modular clutch correct?

I used the SRT-4 flexplate, however, the 2.2/2.5 flexplate looked like it would work. There was no physical difference when set side by side with the SRT-4 flexplate.

Yes, definitely interchangeable, I have a 2.2L flywheel and clutch bolted to the 2.4L right now.

I am wondering if the aftermarket SRT-4 clutches (which seem to be able to hold more power than any 2.2L clutch available) would be able to bolt up to a 2.2L flywheel? To do this the aftermarket clutch would have to be a non modular one and the question is if the p-plate bolt pattern is the same as a 2.2L p-plate?

Just looking for higher HP options for 2.2L clutches...
