View Full Version : How rare is this?

I was yard hoppn' today looking for an airdam for my 90 Daytona When I found a 1991 Daytona CS. No ground effects just the regular body. It looked like a T1 car but had the Shelby brakes AND a a568 transmission. So how rare is it to find a T1 with a 568 transmission? I'm going back to swipe all the parts tomorrow first thing. Didn't have the tools I needed to day.

A 91 CS is a rare car, I don't know the numbers but there certainly weren't many produced.

Some quick research online has production numbers at 150 and they were competition packages only. Can someone confirm this. I might get the whole car!

Update: Just talked to the yard manager. Once the car is in the yard they can't sell the car. It's parts only. Bummer. I would have gotten the whole car. :banghead::banghead:

Not sure if this would have any numbers or not?

I know those cars are relatively hard to come by. Grab the VIN from it.

If you grab the vin plate from the windshield, you should get the body plate too. One's not really any good w/out the other.

I was saying to grab the VIN # (like write it down on paper) in order to do a carfax or something on it, not to clone it. That's not right to do IMHO and I wasn't meaning to imply that he should do that at all.

Did you try to "pursuade" him? A few extra C notes might sway him as long as he hasn't sent the title into the state...I'd ask him where the original title is.

I once bought a car from a yard and got the original title, with the "promise" that it was for parts. I sent it in to the state and it cleared fine with no questions asked.

Why let the vin and fender tag get crushed? You can't do anything without the title anyways. It's more like a keepsake, plus they fit nicely in your pocket. Personally I keep the vin and fender tag from every car I part out.

I would definately part that thing for all it's worth. A car that rare deserves to live on.

That car will have everything that the 91 Daytona Shelby has but no GFXs or interior options. I might ne interested in the complete engine bay harness if you can get it cheap enough. They are awesome for TIII conversions in Shelby Zs:p

I'm in agreement with you on this. I make it a point to grab the body tags off any semi rare TD I find, just so I can confirm a dead player. Though unless there is a registry for these, I don't know who you'd notify...

I was planning on getting the fender tag to confirm and register it as gone. The wrecking yard dose not put the cars out until they have cleared the title so It will never run on the road again. I will talk to the yard manager again in the morning. A couple of friends will be with me. I'm going to grab the complete tranny, pedels, shifter, full brakes, hubs, struts, springs, computer, and the wiring harness if I have the time. I will get pic's as well. Its a shame because the body looked pretty good. The Wheels are long gone. The brakes looked good. I think it had 118k on the clock. I'll up date more when I get back with parts. If there are any other items that I should look for let me know. Thanks

If it has the leather wrapped steering wheel in good shape i might be interested it that as well.

Ok here is todays haul, sorry the steering wheel was vinyal. One a568 Trans, One short drive shaft, one long drive shaft, two front spindles, two front rotors, two front calipers, two rear rotors, two rear calipers, two rear spindles, one shifter, two shifter cables, and one computer (believe it is a high torque calibration). I've included a couple pics. I will go back later to get the pedels. Dose any one know if the brake and clutch pedel come out on the same bracket?

Very nice find.

I was in a similar situation last weekend. I found a complete 91 Spirit ES Turbo in a yard. Unmolested, complete. 55k miles. Yard owner would not consider selling the whole car. The only thing it was missing was one of it's white snowflake wheels.

Didn't see anyone answer his question about the T1 receiving a 568....but all the ''high torque'' T1 engines got the 568 behind. Very rare indeed, nice find.

Yeah it says it on the ID tag. Some one with more knowledge then me can explain, but they were fairly rare. ScottD has one and knows a good deal about them...

AGS was the option code for the high performance C/S Daytona. AGS=factory built race car

Yeah, should have the high torque T1 engine which had the 568 behind it. There were other cars with the high torque T1's that weren't AGS cars.

I didn't get the pedals yet. I ran out of energy getting the other stuff. I had to do it by myself because my friends bailed out on me the night before. It took me 3.5 hours to get all that stuff. I have a few things I'm going back for. I forgot the bracket for the passenger side mid shaft, the pedals, and I want the trim that goes on top of the radiator support to the nose cone.

I'm planning on going back next weekend for the rest of the stuff. My work week starts Wed night through Sat night this week. I've got another project I'm working on with a friend as well. We're going to look at a motor home with a 440 that we want to rob the drive train out of for this.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v315/Gearjamer/Natenstien/IMG_0624.jpg

We started this with a friend about 3yrs ago. It's a 1953 pilot house 1/2 ton Dodge. They never came as 4x4s. This one is fitted to a 1ton '66 Power Wagon chassis with a Dana 60 closed knuckle front and Dana 70 rear. It also has a devorced transfer case with 12ton PTO winch. The guy moved back east and sold us the truck. It's currently sitting in my shop. The RV has 80k original but the body is trashed. The guy only wants 300 for it and it runs good.

Wow!

I spotted a Shelby 'tona that was blue about a year ago in a local yard. It was an automatic, tho. A few years futher back, I saw a CS 'tona in which I snagged the "CS" emblems off of just for s and g's. So I say grab them, too!

Ya ought to drop the whole rear axle/spring combo too GEARJAMMER. That suspension is top quality also. And the brake proportioning valve.
I got 1990 C/S AGS out of a yard several years ago. Sold it to jason4287. Turned out to be 1 of 7.:banghead:
Some one else rescued one not long ago, California or Florida .Can't remember.

Definitely get that little C/S emblem!! If you don't want it, I'll take it off your hands :) Also, you should get the sideview mirrors. Most, if not all 89 and up Daytona's had power mirrors and the manual ones are pretty hard to come by. I remember somebody looking for them not too long ago and was having a very hard time.

Oh! And get the a/c delete bracket and crank pulley. At the very least, you could resell those and recoup some of your money :thumb:

Current shopping list for my return.
A/C deleate crank pully
Fender emblem
Wiring harness from engine bay
Console
Pedels
Instrement cluster
Mirrors (manual)
Brake prop valve

I hope you guys want some of this stuff. If I get it I'm selling it for what I paid + any core charges + My time. For example the tranny was 100.00, the core charge 25.00, and it took me 2 hours to pull it. I charge 25.00 an hour for friends. That's less than I make at my day job and covers gas and admittance to the yard. So I wouldn't sell the tranny for any less than 175.00. The only thing I really still need is the pedels. If I don't use the trans on my 'tona I have another plan for it. I've got 2 other turbo motors and a Stratus DOHC head. So a Hybrid/568 combo is going in something. After I get my new K-member in my Mustang, finish my '68 Ranchero, and sell my Opel Manta.

and sell my Opel Manta.

OMG! There is someone else out there that has an Opel Manta! I bought one of those back in 90, I think. Paid $100.00 for it, put a little work into it, and drove it cross country. Too bad the torque converter bolts loosened up long about Oklahoma! Had some big plans for that thing, turbo V6! Sadly ended up selling it to Pick a Part when I lost my storage. And, no, the wife won't allow any other cars to come home, till "at least two of them go away"....
