I have a cal burnt on one of my chips but no backup on my computer. I need to erase this chip to burn a new cal, but dont want to loose the old one (yes, I need more chips).

How can I download the cal that is on the chip and save it to my computer?

thanks,
clay

Make sure you have the burner setup for that particular chip. Put the chip in the burner and open up the software. Click on file and read binary (I think) This will pull the binary off the chip. You will then need to save it. Once you have done that you will need to use the scan function on D-cal and cross identify it with whatever cal it actually is. This should get you all the table names etc. Once you are done with that click save as and put it where you want it.

This is going off of sheer memory, but it should be almost exact. If I messed up I am sure someone will be along to correct me, or PM me and I will do it at home on my computer and give you a step by step. :)

Yep, pretty much what cordes said. It all depends on the software for your programmer, but it will be able to read the chip contents into its buffer and provide a way to save it.

well I tried to save it, but then when I went to do a 'verify' between what I saved and the chip, I get an error. So I dont know that I did it right.

when I tried to scan it in D-cal I didnt get much of anything that looked like a cal, and when I tried to open it, I didnt get anything. Hmmmmmm

You're using a 27SF512 right? Well, since the chip is larger, and I am sure you are burning at C000, then you'll need to delete the padding at the beginning (all those 0's) to make it a 16k file, then you can match up a standard table file.

Not sure what programmer you use or what the software is like, but it should have some kind of hex editor that lets to view/modify the raw hex dump. Around address 0x640 you should see the Chrysler copyright:

I think he's trying to archive his existing cal from a stock chip.

Ive got a willem enhanced burner. And not a stock cal, its a modified cal actually. One that I havent given a shot yet, but would like to have a backup for when I do. I hate having chips laying around anywhere for fear that something *bad* will happen to them. Always nice to have a burnable backup somewhere. ;)

and, eventually if I ever do run this cal, I would like to be able to make adjustments if I need to.

oh, and yes, I use the C000 offset when burning chips.
