found a real nice convertible lebaron for sale, but its not a turbo motor.
how complicated would it be convert a non-turbo car to a turbo?

I have lots of spare parts from some previous turbo lebaron project cars.

Swap or change-

Fuel pumps
Wiring harness
Computer
Engine or Trans or both
Exhaust
Then minor tweaks, IE redoing fuel lines, intake etc. If you have 2 cars, then it won't be that big a deal, just time and more time, :D

It's pretty easy if you have all the parts from the same body style of car. Dont forget the throttle cable.

I have parted out 3 turbo lebarons in the past 14 months. so I have lots of parts..... a 2.2L turbo with a 5spd, a 2.5L turbo with an auto trans, several SMEC's and many misc parts. not sure if I have an fuel system parts (ie fuel pump and or module)

right.. guess I forgot to add the info

it's an 89 TBI car. seller claims the engine and transmission are "reconditioned" units from a 90 model TBI car. anyway.... I bought the car, going to clearwater florida to pick it up this coming saturday. Road Trip !!!!

finally got the car home. it needs a turbo conversion bad.

one question on the fuel pump... do I need a entire assembly from a turbo car or can I just swap to a higher volume pump and keep the stock tank mounting and sending unit?

Since it is TBI you should be able to just pull out the hanger assy and put the new pump in there. I would get a walbro 255lph high pressure pump. It will probably cost you less than the parts store replacement and flow more too.

ok... in process of converting the car now. 2.5L TBI and auto trans are removed.
just realized the injector harnesses are different. what do I do about that? do I have to replace the entire harness that runs along the firewall, right under the cowl?

let me know something before I ripp this car apart further.

I think you are going to need to replace the whole wireing harness. Good luck on the conversion!

You may hit up Clay on here. He is parting an 88 vert that may be of great use to you being as its a turbo car with an auto already. If you go to www.Thedodgegarage.com there should be some good info there as well.

I just finished my 93 Shadow turbo conversion. I'm still running the stock TBI tank and pump setup. I had to swap the engine harness from a turbo car to make it work. Also check up on if there are any differences according to years. My 90 harness wouldn't plug up to my dash harness, but a 91 harness did.

I have an engine harness from an 89 Lebaron GTS, the 4 door model. I'll sell if you need it. I don't have a computer or relays, which may interchange with what you have now.

Interestingly enough, I'm doing the opposite swap in my 89 Lebaron Premium, just to get it on the road again. (dead 2.5 Turbo1 to good 2.5 TBI N/A)

I'm wondering if you would be willing to sell the 2.5 N/A TBI wiring harness and computer- if you still have them?

I have the 89 smec turbo 2.5 computer and turbo fuel pump if you still need them...I might have the turbo 2.5 harness too, but I would need to check on its condition.
