I've been looking at a few Cummins powered trucks to replace my 1990 D-350. I found one on Craigslist (http://nashville.craigslist.org/car/557368669.html) for $8600. It has over 276k miles on it, but it is a Cummins. My 1990 Cummins powered D-350 has over half a million miles on it, so the mileage on the engine shouldn't be that big of a thing. He says the transmission shifts great. He thinks it may have been rebuilt or replaced before he bought the truck 2 years ago. He claims that there is nothing wrong with it except for some clear coat problems and a small crack in the dash. He just doesn't need the truck anymore. It also has brand new tires on it.

I'm going to go look at it tomorrow after work. Is there anything I should look for on the 24 valve engine?

According to Kelly Blue Book, it would be worth over $10k in fair condition. It is probably somewhere between fair condition and good condition. The way he described it, it is closer to good condition.

I looked at a 1997 3500 dually extended cab with a manual transmission Saturday. It was really nice, but he wants $11,600 for it. It's been well maintained but www.kbb.com lists it around $10,000.
What do you think? Should I keep looking?

Not sure how far you're looking to drive, but I'm selling my truck, and it may be what you're looking for. Here is a link to the listing on craigslist.

I don't check the boards very often, so give me a call if you want to talk about the truck a bit. If you're not in a big hurry for it (like by this weekend) I do have a friend who lives in memphis, so I might be able to work something out with you as far as travel goes.

I'm in no hurry for one. I'll get in touch with you. If you were able to drive it down this way, I'd be interested.

Kevin, Joe is a local SDAC-Chicago member and a good guy. He drove that truck out to SDAC last year and the Mopar Nats, both times with a trailer in tow. If I remember right he was getting somewhere around 16mpg effortlessly towing his turbo van, while I was beating the snot out of my 318 Ram towing an Omni to the tune of 11mpg. Rode in his truck back and forth to the Nats a few days and it rides nice with a trailer, can barely tell it's back there.

I figured you probably knew him. I'm going to look at this one today. I'll get in touch with Joe some time this week. I'd really rather have a dually anyway. I'm towing a 24' enclosed trailer that's about 1' taller than most.

I drove this one today. The brakes were bad and the steering felt odd. It was smoked in too, so it's a no.
