I'm looking for a 2.5 tall deck for a project engine idea. I used to have one a few years ago and sold it when I moved, thinking I'd never use anything other than a common block. But, now I have an idea for a 2.5 NA 16V engine and I want a tall deck again. So, if you have one to sell, let me know...

EDIT: I can buy it outright, but I'd prefer to trade. I've got 3 common blocks; one good stock bore turbo, one good stock bore NA, and one +0.040" turbo with a bad #4 bore.

Rob, I've got one here, it has some rust in the bores and would probably need bored out as a result. If you come and get it (about an hour north of Chicago) you can have it.

I may come out that way in mid March and could possibly deliver it, but would then want to trade or at least get something for my time.

If the block I've got won't work JT has got a bunch of tall deck blocks also.

I'm going to bore it anyway, so that's fine. Unfortunately, I don't see driving over there for it anytime soon. If you bring it here, I'd be happy to trade (or pay) for it.

Still looking...

I read somewhere that the tall deck block has enough meat in the cylinders to bore to 0.060" over. Can anyone confirm that?

I think they are the same between cylinders as a common block minus the x-drilled steam holes.

The bore spacing is the same and I would think the walls between the cylinders would be the limiting factor. Perhaps you can get away with thinner walls on a N/A.

Why can't you be in the New England area? I have a complete 86 2.5 waiting to get pulled from my k wagon....just haven't had the incentive to yank it yet! Shipping would obviously make this a lose-lose deal for everyone involved....darn it!!!!

Yeah, Maine is a bit too far for a road trip. I've had a block shipped before via UPS, but it was ~$50...

Hey guys.. I need this same block for my circle track car.

I'm in Mid-Michigan and will make the drive to IN to pick up the block.

Also, Cape.. If you'll pull that motor, I'll have a someone come and get it. My folks are driving New Hampshire over spring break and can bring it back.

I am also looking for an exhaust manifold off a flex-fuel car if anyone has one of those.

Thanks.

Has anyone ever looked at one of these to see if there really is more meat in the bottom of the casting as claimed?

Yep, I just got the block Turbodave gave me apart. It looks just like a CB in the bottom end - the webbing between cyls, etc. The crank is actually different, though. The TDB crank is 3lbs heavier and takes the square tooth sprocket. No biggie, the CB 2.5 crank fits perfectly. Don't know about the cylinders, but I'll have the machinist measure them when I send it out.

My tall block 2.5 is still alive thanks to Rob (Shel-Game) Lloyd, Larry (rwd P-body), and Brad (woody turbo wagon). I took my old 250,000 mile head to the speed shop and it checked out ok on pressure tests and is straight. They are taking off .010, new valve seals, refreshed guides, and valve job. Brad will be doing the work when the head comes back. That old block now has a 410 stock roller cam while the refreshed head will have a 500 lift Lambros head. I shift at only 4600 now and that bigger bump stick should move the shift points up to at least 5600.
