So I finally have the 16v conversion mocked up in the basement...

And I see an issue - the cam pullys are as tight to the head / valve cover as can be, yet they are about .300 out from the intermediate shaft and tensioner when I lay a straight edge across the cam pully to the int. pully...

What up whit dat??? :confused2:

Is the Nissan belt narrower than the pullys??

I put the srt head on my 89 CB and it looks like the timing belt would be ok. I dont have a spare set of cam pulleys to mock it up though.
I compared the srt head to a 98 neon head and they dimensional the same on the cam pulley end.

I need to see whats going on in your basement.

When I made my gears I had to move the outer (2.5L) closer to the head & grind clearance on the head for the gears/belts to clear. I can take some more pics of the head/assembly tomorrow if that helps.

Look on the left end near the top left intake (coolant fed area) tapped hole you can see where I clearanced the head.

Im not familiar personely with the aftermarket available cam gears
but both my sets of gears required the head to be lightly ground to
keep the lower stock 2.2/2.5 pulleys in there exact stock location.

(note how close the gear is to the head)

To obtain a perfectly true tracking of the set above I even
faced the pulley a little for 7500rpm blasts with no wear on
the shoulders of the belt. People have already machined
spacers to move the 2.2/2.5 lower gears out, pretty strait
forward proceedure as long as you dont over tighten the
belt (only tightend correctly).

I concur. I just measured the distance from the stock 8V gear on the 8V head to the far left head bolt hole. Then I measured the 16V gear to far left head bolt hole & made my gears to match the stock 8V dimension. Straight forward. You can see how the inner ring is bolted to the outside of the stock 8V outer gear, this pushes it back toward the head to align the cam gears with the crank. Light grinding to the head for the cam gears to clear.
