There a good car, solid powertrain, just watch for intake coolant leaks and thats it. Also be warned, they are full of electronic gizmo's, :(

wow, I was thinking i was going to get told it was a POS. Im betting its a early 90's car from the pic, and because they are only asking 800 for it! How much HP did they have stock? Does anyone know what 1/4 times can be acheived with a smaller pulley?

I was comparing Chrysler fullsize cars to the GM fullsize cars. Of course those lower class ones will have more issues.

Here's a couple more "reviews" from the same "era"...

GM's Series II 3.8L is one of the only V6's with very consistant 200k mile + longevity...

Remember, in those reviews, most people only write reviews when they want to complain, so that is why there are always several more complaints than compliments... well, except for Toyota Camry owners that feel the need to go out of their way to post how good their car is in every review just to justify to themselves that they 'made the right choice' by buying a vanilla sedan just cuz Consumer Reports over rated it... Their positive comments are soooo whacked, stuff like "I had to change the trans at 70k miles, but it lasted that long, I love my Camry"

as for the SSEI decent reviews

I've got a GTP with the 3800 series II and its nice and the popular swap would be a Gen 5 blower off the newer body GTP SSEi cars.

ClubGP.com is a good place to start looking

The Pontiac Bonneville and Ford Aerostar were tops in the tire shop domestic 200K+ miles club hands down. I think that you would have to drain the oil out of a 91 Bonneville and run it for 20K before it would finally concede and let you win out of pity.

ETA: Domestic was just used to exclude Volvo wagons and the Mercedes diesels. Japanese cars need not apply. I could probably count the total number of Japanese cars in the club on one hand... if I were missing a couple of fingers.

my aunt had an aerostar, it left a big black spot in her driveway where it burned to the ground...

i LOVE the Bonneville SSEi! BUT, only the '92-'95....they look sooooo much nicer than the '96-'99 variety which IMO look like boring fleet cars (and they look like they have a beak!). the '92-'95 SSE/SSEi is one of the best looking GM cars ever made IMHO. unfortunately the '92-'95 SSEi were only available with the Series-1 L67 with the smaller Eaton M62 and the weaker 4T60-E. IMO the best year would be a '93. it was still OBD-1 so you could tune the EPROM and you could swap on the more efficient M62 from a '94/'95 SSEi. obviously that would only get you so far though. they have good low end torque for sure but they definately won't compete with the Series-II L67 on the highway. just an FYI, the '98+ GM cars with the Series-II L67 got the 4T65-E HD ('96/'97 Series-II L67 cars still got the weaker 4T60-E IIRC). there is practically no aftermarket for the Series-I....which sucks. talk about the underdog of GM engines. but you could always swap in the Series-II L67....or the Series-III L32 with the GEN-V M90. oh hell just swap a new 5.3L LS4 in there :eyebrows:

btw, beware of clubgp.com....lots of A$$wipes there. i only frequent the regional RMCGP section. the regional sections are great. another one to check out would be bonnevilleclub.com. i used to own a '94 Bonneville SSE but it just had the NA L27.

one big problem i had with mine (which is VERY common) is the instrument panel. drove me freakin nuts. also, IIRC the struts are very expensive (if it's equipped with air level ride). otherwise the interiors are very nice and look modern even for a '92 car, seats very are comfy, and heads up display rocks.

smaller pulley's are available for the Series-1 L67 BUT be sure you are scanning for KR before going smaller. '92/'93 Series-I L67 was only rated at a lowly 205hp (pretty pathetic for a rather large V6 with boost!). in '94/'95 the M62 was more efficient because of teflon coated rotors or something like that...and they were rated at 225hp....and this is despite the pulley actually being larger in '94/'95!! Series-II L67 was advertised at 240hp/280ft/lbs. typically a Series-II 2000-ish GTP will put down around 190-200whp stock but it doesn't take much money or work to make big improvements. the Series-II is far superior and not just because of the larger supercharger.
