Fuel pump won't run. Jumped the pump it runs good, so I thought hep and switched it out with one from a running car. The pump still won't prime or run.

ASD relay? What's the test procedure for the ASD?

Suggestions?

Thanks,
Guy

Hey Guy.

You can try jumping power to the coil to see if the pump comes on. If that works, I'm pretty sure that means the ASD is bad.

Thanks, Gary. I forgot to try that.

Update

Well, got the van running last night. Don't know what amps the fuel pump drew when it failed, I do know this there were a few spots where the wiring was toast and the pump connector was melted to the top of the tank on the inside. no wonder it wouldn't pull off, how did I miss that?

So I whipped up a new harness and threw resetable 30 amp breaker on the power feed. Anyone know the amp draw of the fuel pump? Is 30 amp to high?

I think a pump draws somewhere in the neighborhood of 7-12 amps. I still think a 30 amp breaker is OK though, basically just protects it from shorting and melting wires. Probably a 20 would be better consider the light gauge of the wire, but it's probably not worth changing if you already installed it.

30 amps is too high, I would say the ground side is no good or the pump is worn out causing the high load condition. 7-12 is about right,

I'll switch to 15 amp breaker today. I forgot to add I used 10 gauge wire.
