I am sure many will tell you that the extra work required for twin turbos is more work than you will need. A single turbo setup with a good 50 trim hybrid should more than reach your goal of 300hp. If you were serious when you said you wanted to do something different, then you could probably get 300hp with just a couple of stock T2 turbos in good condition. They are easy to find and pretty cheap too. There have been a couple people complete a twin turbo setup on a 2.2, so maybe one of them will chime in with some real advice.

I know I've read of a couple people who've done it, I think after that they ditched their custom setup and went just to a good single. If you know how to weld cast, you could probably chop up two stock exhaust manifolds. But mounting everything and the piping would just be an utter nightmare! Piping and routing gets bad enough on a big single, nevermind twins!

A super 60 turbo is capable of 300 WHP and spools like a stock T2 turbo pretty much. Twins on these engines just doesn't make sense and is far more work with no gain or advantage over a single setup.

extra weight too...i also agree that it isn't worth it. if you really want to do something weird, do a centrifugal super combined with a stock t2...

Whats the point of that? What help is it?

Twin-charged FTW!

There was a fellow on CarDomain a while back that had twin-turboed the 2.2. Not sure how it turned out. I agree with the others, though. Twin turbos on a four cylinder just seems like to much work.

Want to really be different? Tube-frame the chassis, make it rear-wheel drive, and drop a 360 in there.

I believe it was a twin mitsu with a combined swingvalve. Pretty neat, but I believe he switched back to a single turbo then.
Perhaps if our turbo wasn't on the firewall side it might be possible. Heck, I could try adding a twins for my 2.5L in my dakota since it's inline and I have plenty fender room. It also already requires some kind of custom header and intake anyway.

I've seen the same thing only with a 440 stuffed in there!!!

none other than always instant boost, just to be different.

Twins doesn't always give instant boost, very little difference in lag time. This is assuming sequencial twins not compound twins. Compound twins can seriously reduce lag but I've never seen it done on gas engines.

i meant super and turbo...anyways...

Oh my bad I didn't look at who was replying and got them mixed up.
A centrifigal is not going to give you instant boost at all, unless you are at 5000+ RPM already in which case a turbo gives nearly instant boost too. Centrifigals give almost no boost below 3000 RPM usually, and the boost is linear to RPM which gives the engine more of a N/A feel. That may help with traction, but now you are talking about adding a turbo and a super, IMO that only hurts performance.

I say go for it, that is the only way you will be satisfied. You never know how these things turn out.

Do it and report back to us :]

Good luck

Yup that was the one I was talking about. Low 12's at 111 MPH so he's definitely over 300 HP with twin mitsu's. Just shows how much uncorking the exhaust does to these cars.
