It will allow us to do some fancy stuff which is being created now. In addition, we can really show of our features, and then put more useful links up top!

Frank

HA! I figured people weren't going to like it and I was going to have to sell you all on it.

Basically we are talking about moving the top flash stuff down into the left area between Site Nav and Search. We can then be more creative and make it 185x600. It will be sweet.

What is bothering you about it?

i just like having the full width of screen for the thread, and what about when people post pics? I hate doing the arrow slide thing back and forth to read text and look at pics.

Have you seen what we did when people put too big of pictures in? Try it! I dare you! ;)

JDAWG

yea i guess you are right. I still like having the whole width to read though.

Frank

I do too, however, I am trying to bring people to notice our features, and this was a way to do it.

I am going to eventually pull alot of those links out of the navbar and replace them with the common ones people like for finding posts, etc. I guess part of it is, is that no body views the site home... they always bookmark the forums themselves. Because of this, everyone misses out on alot of stuff. Well this is a way to help bring people back to our other benifits.

Sorry, I liked it better the old way. :) It takes up too much space while reading a thread.

What's up with it? I loved the old layout, the site was beautiful with easy to read topics and the SDAC/COTM or whatever gif rotating in the upper corner looked cool. Just my .02 I like the old layout better.

is it possible to make the nav stuff go away when you expnd a thread, but when your browsing a catagory etc, its there?

I don't like it, reminds me of another ad filled site. Please put it back or have an option NOT to have it.

Moved to Board Discussion and agreed, it blows.

That is possible.... let me mull it over....

For everyone else, remember that this is just a trial run. Remember that just because it is different and changes the layout some, doesn't mean it is a bad thing. We are trying to promote various aspects that are forgotten also.

Thanks for being patient.

Per some discussion and suggestion.... it only appears on the aux pages, forum display, etc. It no longer appears on the threadview, edit/new posts, etc. In addition, per suggestion of Barry, it no longer shows Polls from the lounge so they are purely technical, etc.

I agree, perhaps there is a way to minimize the side navbar, and maximize it to its current length when you wish? It feels awkward with everything mashed to the right side the entire time, but is very convenient to have that navbar on the left when searching the forums. I do like the flash images over on the left too! :thumb:

BTW, was the 'Forums' link always in the side navbar or did you just add that? Any chance you can move it up in the order so its second underneath 'Site Home'?

Frank
01-19-2008, 03:40 PM
I am going to edit the code to move Forum and KC up to the top.... stupid software. Anyway, I thought about how it would be worth it to make it collapse, but there are some serious considerations that I don't know how to handle, one of them being flash. I could try collapsing it, but how do I force expansion and other things. I dunno.

Frank
01-19-2008, 03:43 PM
I adjusted the code for the Navigation section.

DC Turismo
01-19-2008, 04:11 PM
Thanks for switching that Frank!

Yeah the flash in the current spot it's in would pose a problem. In addition, even being able to collpase those menus on the left would not make the actual forum part expand left-to-right and get bigger, correct?

Frank
01-19-2008, 04:13 PM
I could, but but collapsing the <div> tags when flash content is containted within it is not easily done from what I have been able to see. DHTML is nice, but it is not native.... :(

DC Turismo
01-19-2008, 04:18 PM
Gotcha. Because even in our profiles, you can collapse the side menu boxes and the screen is left the same size.

I'm really starting to get used to the layout though after sitting here for a while on it. Like anything, it's an adjustment at first, but I really like having the calendar and everything on the left while browsing forums.

I like the New Posts and My Threads where they are right now. It has made me change the way I use the forum as a whole and I am more apt to read threads or posts I would otherwise ignore or not even see. Plus the narrower new layout doesn't bother me as much now too. Just don't slather the site in adds for useless gizmo's, hot links to ebay auctions and other BS. :thumb:

dumb question...

Do we still have the ability to delete threads we no longer want to "follow" that we possted in long ago? Maybe I'm missing the area or something...

moparzrule

In your user CP there should be an ''unsubscribe'' button to click on below the thread title.
EDIT- Or when you are viewing the thread, near the top of the page it says ''thread tools'', click on it and hit unsubscribe there too.

88_pacifica
01-23-2008, 08:03 PM
Hmmmm... still shows up under "my threads"...

weird, oh well, I guess I'll have to be more "selective" in which threads I post in now... :D ;)

Yep, the newer layout sucks. Put the new posts back where it was, remove the new posts from the nav bar and put the KC link there. Sheesh.

What happened to the Notification menu thing under our usernames? I was finally used to that and really liked it! lol...

The notification is still there. When you have not, it reverts back to the PM link.

I am working on the rest.
