Ok I got my exhaust put on the other day. Full 2.5" exhaust no cat and I hate to say it but kinda ricey muffler. Its a straight through magnaflow with like a four inch tip. I personally like the way it sounds but my dad not so much. He is used to the sound of big V8's and thinks this sound kinda ricey.

What do you guys think about how our cars sound?

Ill try and get a sound clip asap.

Is the magnaflow a bullet or an oval? The larger can straight thrus have a much better deeper tone to them!

Its oval and I was looking up which one I have and was looking at the muffler and it actually necks down too less then 2.5" because of some high flow tuning cone or something like that. Would that hurt my performance at all?

BTW, its a 2.5L engine if that makes a difference in tone.

I'm not familiar with the Magnaflows... the Dynomax is thraight thru and I thought the Magnaflow was sililar? can you look straight thru it?

2.2L and 2.5L sound similar...

Ya I can look straight through it but it looks like it necks down a bit. I was reading about it and this "tuning cone" is supposed to make it a deeper more smooth sounding exhaust note.

Got pics of this tuning cone?

part number?

Turbo cars sound good with just about any muffler. Magnaflows tend be loud and have nice deep burble. On a n/a car, I don't like them, tried one on my 98 Jimmy, sounded like crap. On my turbo van, heaven,

Ya I believe its this one. You can see the info about the "tuning cone" towards the bottom.

the 2.5" is gonna sound higher pitched and more poppy on decel. Been there done that. The 3" gives it a nice deep tone. My 2.5 was quieter than the 2.2 was on the same exhaust system.

I would say its not meant for a turbo engine, hence the smaller flow and the cone will act as a venturi. Sh*t can that muffler and get a see thru version.

Ya thats what I was thinking but I might just leave it on for a while cause I dont want to spend money on another muffler. The only reason that one is on the car is because thats what the guy at the exhaust shop put on. But its only clamped on so I could always switch it. BTW whats a venturi?

A venturi is like that cone, or look down a carb, its designed to speed up the airflow. We already have a big venturi, its called a TURBO,

"balanced to the needs of the high revving import engine The Street Series is recommended for street cars with bolt-on performance modifications and custom body kits."

Ya after reading that I wanted too throw up cause it is pretty ricey. But I didnt pick it out, it was the only straight through muffler the guy had to put on.

some people have said their 2.5" systems seem a bit ricier as far as the resonance goes.
Installing a cat would definitely quiet it down and kill a lot of resonance.

Just change the tip on that. Maybe a square tip would look better.

The 2.5 inch system on my old Spirit ES with no cat and a welded magnaflow reminded me somewhat of an old tractor with a turbo. Don't get me wrong, It's a very distinct sound and I love it.

Thanks, I dont think its rice. Its not just a fartcan welded to a stock exhaust. The whole exhaust is upgraded so I say its not rice!

Well, I would still bet that muffler is a good portion of your rice sounding problem.

Ya, but I dont think it really sounds rice. Its just really low. I havent revved the engine that high so I dont know if Ill like it or not.
