I could not find any AT29C256 chips at mouser which said that they were obsolete. Is there another chip I could use to avoid busting out the UV eraser for these?

SST27SF512

same as the LM... offset is different though.

Thanks. My search ablities are very weak over on chem for sure. I thought that this was the case, but I wasn't sure. Thanks again.

Try this link for the AT29c256 chips. It's where I get mine.

I used the SST27SF512 from mouser with an offset of 8000 like Brian said. They are cheaper than the stockers too. I've erased and re-used the one chip a dozen times already.

Moates.net (http://www.moates.net/index.php?cPath=26) is where I buy mine. I noticed they no longer have the AT29C's, but do have the replacement SST27SF512 for $5. As stated offset is different.

Lower on that page they have a S4 Aries 28-pin Low-Profile ZIF thats the bomb for LM's...not that it applies to you though.

Yeah, they're even cheaper than the 27C256. No reason to NOT use the flashable chips these days...
