I've got 3 85 GLH turbos currently, and an 86 GLHS. Looking at picking up two more GLH turbos in the near future.

This is my nicest one, recently repainted and equipped with a lot of old-school direct connection parts.

Yes, it's dry in that pic but it was raining on and off that day. The paint looks really bad in person now though, thanks to a major hail storm. It now has 5-bolt swiss cheese wheels.

Dave that car looks incredible! Nice work!

Dave your GLHS is very very nice. I really like that, nice work! : )
My Omni GLH is non-turbo unfortunately, but atleast i have one! Just picked it up a year ago. There is a pic of it in my profile and ill post one here too. But my boyfriend has a GLH Turbo looks almost identical to mine. So we have his and hers.

Thanks Marcus!!!

I am the second owner of my GLH. Picked it up in Delaware last year, so ive owned her about a year now. Shes a non-turbo original everything. 1986 is correct! :thumb: I know it was kinda funny when we found her cause my bf was surprised as well about the non-turbo ones that are original still. They are very hard to come by. Well most GLH's are hard to come by these days. Technically, its not the original paint, as it was repainted once under warranty from the first owner at the dealership which it was purchased. But for "original" paint its in excellent shape. Everything else is original. We will be taking out the motor within the next few weeks and freshening her up. She needs some carb work, new clutch (original), and freshening up the motor and exhaust. The wheels are original. And we are going to get some fresh paint on there as well. But this one is going to stay stock. :D I love her and cant wait to get a driving her as well!!!

I dont have any pics of our GLH's side by side yet, but as soon as they are both done in tip top condition i will have more pictures. And yes we will both be showing ours at Chrysler Carlisle this year. It will be the first time for us showing, so we are really looking forward to it. Will you be there, Marcus?

Kyle- i like your GLH, very very nice!!! .... what are you currently running at the track? Or have you yet to run it?

Dave- your GLHS is sweet. Very nice job. Do you just show yours or do you run it at the track?

excellent. i am looking forward to seeing your cars in person so i will save my other 20 questions i have for you on your car for that show....and yes i have pre-registered for the show and plan on arriving Friday afternoon, taking my omni of course.

"..But this one is going to stay stock. .."

good plan, your '86 GLH in sante fe blue and bone stock original will be one of the few left like that. maybe we will see yours cars at the track one day? its a shame not to occasionally race any TD.

Thanks! Im getting very anxious in getting the cars to Carlisle this year! We are really looking forward to it. So im guessing you havea 86 GLHS? Do you have any pics that i can see??? we didnt register yet, but will shortly.. we should be there all weekend, and its only about an hour from our house. So we will each have our Omnis there.

Yep my girl is gonna stay stock, and thats probably a good thing! However my bfs Turbo GLH is going to be for street and for racing, we can talk all about that at Carlisle when you see them with your other 20 questions. hehehehe.

Sweet ride! Lets see the other one.....

I've got 2 sante fe blue GLH-T's. One of which I just brought home form York a few weeks ago.

Since your local, you should check out our local TD club "Susguehanna Valley Turbo Dodge". (http://www.sv-td.com/)Membership is free and we hold monthly meetings in the Gettysburg, Harrisburg and possibly other local area's as well in the future. We will also be represented in one shape or form at Chrysler Carlisle this year as well as other spring/summer events. So if you and your BF get a chance, check us out....:thumb:

Thanks Sean. Yeah his was actually a Plymouth Horizon when he got it.. and it was brown (The pics are on my website of it before) and he did everything from top to bottom and made it into an Omni GLHT. It was about a 4 year project ongoing.. Thanks for all the comments.

Mark- Sorry i havent emailed you back lately, things have been crazy and i havent forgotten about you!!! Thanks i liked all the pics too. Greg is gonna get working on the car soon. He has to fix his battery cables under the car and wire up his foglights and a few other nitty gritty odds and ends and hes good to go to run it around and break it in some more. id say maybe the track next year.. i dunno ill let him answer that one! haha.

I told Greg we seriously need to post it as car of the month! Too bad he never gets his butt on here and i gotta do everything... geesh! lol. oh well i can take some credit for it, right? haha. :)

It looks like this thread sort of died out but I will post anyhow. I just joined 3 days ago and this is my first post. I found this site by a link on the TurboDodge.com site. But back to the Omni's. I started out with a Sante Fe Blue 85 GLHT but it got totaled (NOT by me but saved all of the parts). Then got a black/tan 85 GLHT and it got totaled (this time BY me and saved all of the parts again). Now it gets a little fuzzy as to order of purchase so I will just list them. I still have a black/silver 85 GLHT (originally tan interior so that makes 2), a silver/red 85 GLHT and 2 86 SHELBY GLHS's, #135 and #170. I should also be buying another Sante Fe Blue 85 GLHT shortly. Of course these don't include the 2 87 SHELBY GLHS's, the red 87 Daytona turbo T1 or the 2 red 89 Daytona Shelby T2's I owned in the past.

Welcome aboard JCWV.. Glad to have you along for the ride! :)
I thought Greg (my bf) and I had a lot of GLH stuff floating around, sounds like you do, too! We have his (The one pictured below) that is a 1985 Dodge Omni GLHT Clone that he made. And then mine (the one pictured above) is an original 1986 Dodge Omni GLH (Non Turbo, Carbd) 108,000 original miles. We are getting ready to convert mine over to either Turbo I or Turbo II. The Carb is just a pain in the rear  and its gonna be better off this way.. plus i want some real power! LOL I mean for non-turbo shes got power, but heck a little more wont hurt anything! So im really looking forward to that. And then we have a 3rd one thats also santa fe blue (notice we like blue) and that one is an original Turbo I GLH. that one just sits in the garage for now.. thats gonna need a lot of work so thats gonna wait for a little while to get started.. We just finished Gregs which was a 4 year project, so no more big ones for a while. Thank goodness mine wont take real long. Im getting anxious to drive her! :p

I got an '84 GLH for free from the original owner! It now has MP large tube headers, MP 767 cam, MP mounts, milled head, and a 2.25 exhaust! My cousin bought my old '85 GLH HO, which weve stripped and are turning into a drag only car, and he also just purchased a Gold '85 GLHT thats getting a TII out of a one owner Z! I love OMNIS!

Please dont convert your carbd GLH. Its way to much of a pain(my cuz and I are in the middle of that now) and isnt really worth the trouble. GLHTs are cheap and plentiful and its already got all the fuel injection stuff.

P.S. Id love to have another blue GLH carb(like my first one)!

Show me. I've yet to find one cheap and definately not plentiful here.

They converted a Horizon to T-II so I'm sure they won't have any trouble converting hers to turbo. :thumb:

Ive seen lotsa deals on GLHTs! Ya just gotta look(and look and look......). Im just one of the few guys that really appreciates the non turbo GLH and SC HO cars. Im an enthusiast. I like cars that are different, and carbd GLHs are now very different. A few weeks ago a guy saw my GLH and asked how much boost I was runnin. I told him it was a 1st year GLH that didnt come turbocharged. He accused me of lying and said that I must have swapped over the carb engine out of a Kcar. GLHTs and GLHSs are getting pretty well known, but the carb Shelby cars are slowly dissapearing or being changed over.

Its your car and what I say wont change your mind on anything. Just my 2cents.

PS. ill buy the stock 525 trans out of your car when you do the swap. (The carb cars had different gear sets and I could use a spare. The 525s tend to detonate.)

I guess it depends on what your using for a IC. Using a stock style TII IC, you have to use the TII rad, as the stock rad is to wide. If your using a FMIC, then yeah, you could probably move the stock rad over and be ok, but I would still probably use the TII rad if you had one. Lots more room with it.

My car went in the shop for a wiring short. Since it was in the shop and I hadn't contacted Performance Radiator, yet, I asked the mechanic to do so. He has and ordered a radiator for me that was not a correct size. Now they are building me a new radiator that will replace the radiator from my Rad/Int Combo. Interesting to see what shows up. It is supposed to be thicker and better flowing.

Well i am pickin up my Turbo II motor for my GLH to be converted over from Carbd N/A to TII this weekend from my buddy Troy (TurboJerk). Gotta get a game plan yet as to what all we are gonna do and when.. Gregs got a few things he wants to perfect on his GLH before we start crackin at mine so hopefully shortly so i can get her drivin around before it gets cold out.
The weather freakin sucks here its like 100 and some degrees. Greg is a tech at a Dodge dealership and i dont know how he does it with no fans and just the doors up all day, i think i would die.. thats why i sit on my butt in the ac all day at work! HEHEHE. When you do this swap(wish you wouldnt) are you gonna keep the carb trans or upgrade? If you are gonna get rid of the stock trans then Id want it! I need one for my old '85 GLH HO. I bought it back from my cousin(after he completely stripped the interior out of it) and all it really needs is a transmission. Id like to keep a 3.85gr a525 in it and they are getting hard to find.

Wow, i read ALL 5 pages of this thread and noticed it slowed down for the past few weeks... here's my submission:

http://webpages.charter.net/devl1sh/1mages/GLH_03.JPG

got repainted last spring, and now has a host of new goodies. still hasn't even been street driven (other than 5 miles to storage last week...) i just haven't had the time to finish it all up. I bought a business this summer, and have been super busy. here's what she's got so far though:
Exterior: '86 GLHT, Fresh Santa Fe Blue paint (was silver when i got it last August), shaved 3rd taillight and side markers. ALL trim pieces repainted as well, FX, bumpers, grill, window frames, etc etc... still needs to be reassembled.

Motor: stock internals, stock turbo, but converted to TII, SC Cam, windage tray in oil pan, crankshaft scrapers (currently removed until spring),

Intake/exhaust: FMIC w/ 2.5" pipes, Talon BOV, 52mm Throttle Body, TII intake, full 2.5" turboback exhaust, ,

Fuel/Electronics: 255 Walbro, +40 injectors, Accufab AFPR, 3bar map, currently FWDP Stage 5 computer, but the TrimCal should be here tomorrow (hopefully) or next week for sure. Currently tested at 17psi she's very fun to drive!

Trans: A525 trans with heim joints on the linkages (best mod ever), T2/T3 hybrid clutch combo (new)

Suspension: currently stock other than Poly sway bar & control arm bushings, rear hard bar underneath, front strut bar.

Brakes: SLH1 minivan calipers & SS lines up front, stock rear

Stock 15" wheels for street, 14" Azeni RT-215's for lapping days & Drag Radials for the track.

Complete resto interior, all panels repainted, carpets/seats shampoo'd 2x, new rear hatch cover, many details.

anyways, i'm new to Turbo-Mopar, but not turbo dodges or turbos in general. This is my second Santa Fe Blue GLH, and have/had several DSMs. Sold the last GLH when I bought my house 4yrs ago, didn't have time then either. i hope to finish this one... i'm too far into it now to turn back or quit! Here's the FULL resto on my car so far... w/ lots of pics! http://webpages.charter.net/devl1sh/

and here it is when i picked it up in Jacksonville last august and drove back to WI. it was 101' degrees in the shade! no A/C, radio, cruise, or even exhuast at that time... it was a LONG drive home! :-)

http://usera.imagecave.com/bkburger123/house003.jpg

Bought it for $200, odometer says it has 50,000kms (probably closer to 150,000kms). Non-rusty, but beat. The car is as slammed as it looks, about 2.5-3"'s between the chassis and the ground. It can fog the whole block in about two minutes as well (posted in the help section). Overall, it is a great candidate to get it "restored" to factory shape, as everything is quite fixable (just alot to fix). Wasn't driven for the past 5 years.

Yeah, I know, people ask me why I don't correct it. There is no way.

I am the second owner of the car and I've had it for 10 years. It's been restored for about 5 years. The original owner of the car happens to be a friend of my Father's best friend. He bought it new and he drove it off the showroom of Monroeville Dodge with GLH stickers on the side skirts.

The car has an 11/84 production date.

I got ahold of a guy who does just interiors. I took my seats down to him and told them that I wanted them all in cloth. He said no problem. I saw his work prior to that and knew he did a great job. Prior to that, I found a lady who was willing to stitch the CS logos. She told me that she had no problem doing it because it was a restoration.

Anyhow, when I dropped off the seat, he had the material ready to go. He chalked the logo areas out for her. I dropped them off with her, then dropped them back off to him when they were done. :thumb:

Actually, for once, I didn't enter my car in the judged show. I just wanted to go and grille out and hang with friends.

Yup it is #114. It has 65,219 on it as of Saturday. The only modification is a Stage II computer.

Both of my L's are (engine) stock for the most part (they have MP computers, a few other touches). The car I modify is a P body. It's also the test vehicle for new products.

Basically what Garry is trying to say is if you want to make "THE BIG POWER" your going to need an intercooler. Without an intercooler you are more prone to detonation & piston damage, limited on how much boost you can safely run on pump gas (about 15 psi vs 25 on the same gas) and how much power you can generate.

Below are links to sites with tips about intercooling, some specs, and some cars that have been intercooled in unique ways...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Before we scroll down to the links, I have a word of advice. Mopar Performance sells an intercooler (PN: P5249331) as part of their "Super 60" package, as a rule of thumb I do not recommend purchasing it for any reason, here is why...

It has 15 fins per inch vs 22 for the stocker, basically this means that the stock intercooler has more radiating surface then the S60 intercooler does. The S60 intercooler will flow more air! I don't dispute that. The trade off is it won't cool it as well. The reason why this intercooler exists is threefold..

1) In 1987 Mopar paced the Indy 500 with a Turbo Lebaron, as you can see in the above clip from Mopar Performance's own 2.2 book (Pn: P4452792, page 343) Engineers were more concerned with turbo compressor backpressure and high speed performance then low speed cooling efficiency.

BARDO i had read that previously about the Indy I/C thanks. i guess only testing will determine if for drag racing applications in an omni this i/c is inferior to stock TII. for what i use my car for, low speed cooling efficiency isn't of high priority.

something to do with the N/A & the T cars maybe?? the turbo cars should say GLH Turbo, some only said GLH, and NOT turbo as well... is this correct??

OMNI-Potent
10-13-2006, 10:13 AM
Yes, the only difference is the decal. Obviously the GLHT's got the GLH Turbo decal and the GLH's got the GLH decals.

Now, since my GLHT was an 11/84 build date, I think that they grabbed the GLH side skirts off the shelf and put them on. There was a direct connection kit that was available for the GLH's in 1984 which had the ground effects kit that made it into production in 85.

tryingbe - what is the build date on your car? Just out of curiosity......

Marcus86GLHS
10-13-2006, 10:31 AM
let me ask you this: what about the height of the letters?

does the "GLH" decal have slightly taller letters than the "GLH TURBO" decal's letters? and, on the "GLH TURBO" decal, is it one single decal, or, is each word an individual decal that is applied using a common front paper? (as i recall its the latter).

reason i ask is this: if the characters are identical, and the words are seperate decals, wouldn't it be possible for the word "TURBO" to say fall off, or be removed, leaving just the word "GLH"?

devlish
10-13-2006, 11:17 AM
hmmm, that is possible now that you mention it. i know the GLH & TURBO decals are both seperate from each other... could be a possibility! or, someone got smart in the late 80's and "de-badged" it by take off the turbo decals on the side. more of the sleeper effect.

i have extra TURBO decals from my repaint if you want to put them back on!:D

boostboy
10-13-2006, 11:54 AM
The GLH letters are bigger on an N/A car. The decal on a GLH turbo car is smaller.

Marcus86GLHS
10-13-2006, 01:09 PM
it just occured to me: look at the passenger side skirt. if the car truely got the wrong decals then the "GLH" will be placed too far forward on the skirt for the "TURBO" decal to fit in.

in other words, if it is a factory screw-up the passenger side skirt will have a "GLH" decal place at the very front of the skirt.....no room for a "TURBO" decal.

Yup Marcus you are correct! My side skirts have no room for Turbo after them.

I have reproduction GLH Turbo decals that I got (and didn't put on) that were all one piece.

Also, I think the if a GLH Turbo was in an accident, the shop could have put incorrect side skirts.

However, since I know the history of this car from day 1, I know these are original.

Thanks gang for all the nice comments on Greg's GLHT. Hes put in a lot of hard work, time and money into this thing, especially after 3 1/2 years of waiting to show it at Carlisle, he gets first place!! how awesome is that? haha. We didnt show it at the Nats this year, but are definitely planning to next year. We would definitely be interested in going to alot more of the Mopar shows, just dont know what our agenda looks like and where everything is at. We will be down at Cecil for Turbo Mopar Day, but Greg hasnt decided if he is goin to run it or not.. its not fully broken in yet as everything is still fresh. he still has a few odds and ends he wants to do before racing it and showing it again as well. But it will be at Cecil regardless if he runs or not! Thanks Mark.. and im excited to see you and what this shirt of mine is suppossed to be... :eyebrows:

My GLH N/A is still sitting in the garage. Just havent had time.. might rip the motor out over the winter.. and apparently Greg will be getting me a few odds and ends for Christmas.. so hopefully we can get the ball rollin on this one in the Winter so its ready to go for the Spring and id like to take it to Carlisle and the Nats if possible.. So there will be 2 of these animals runnin around. but mine is just gonna be T2, nothin extra and beefed up like Gregs.. he has to be special! :thumb:

speaking of posting your own pictures... a friend and I recently started our next project, www.projectglh.com, so check it out. it's my 2nd GLH this year i'm redoing. it is our Stock Class SCCA autocross car. we're updating the webpage as we go, every dollar, every step, lots of pictures!

anyways, we're also accepting submissions for other Omni GLH owners, if you'd like us to host some pictures for you and some info on your car, please feel free to email us 3-5 pics and some info to projects@projectglh.com, we'll open a page and put it all up for you for free! if you have a write-up or How To, email us first, and we'll give the OK for more than the 3-5pics if needed.

BTW, all these cars are great looking!! i love this thread! but i think having two S's in your driveway at once should be a crime, and you should give me one!! those are both beautiful!!!

Makes me really nostalgic for my '86 GLH-T that I got brand new...

It went away after an underhood fire 2 years later... Chrysler paid me back for it... completely... every expense I had a receipt for (even a spare set of tires) as it was one of the NHTSA [pre recall] burns...

It was perfect externally, we got the fire out right away... but I was so sick of it from that... and fighting Chysler to fix it for 8 months, even taking them to court because it WAS their problem... I'd had it into the dealer since it was 9 months old complaining of occasional whiffs of gas...

Now of course, it's well known to just put a longer piece of hose on the gas line and replace the regulator...

Still, knowing now how easy the fixes would be... I'd like to find another one...

It was Santa Fe Blue, and I'd traded the pizza wheels for swiss cheese's of f a friends Laser XE (he hated cleaning them... I always thought they looked sooo much cooler...)

I'm done with turbo Volvos, and working on my daughters Charger made me ready to go find another GLHT.... seeing all the pix helped, too.... just hoped I'd see the little critter had been reborn out there somewhere and put smiles on someone elses face...

Anyone else ever have one that put out quite a bit more horsepower than advertised??? That one put 170 hp to the ground (I was considering doing a blueprint job on it, to potentially run it in SSB back in the day...) then found that it was way over what was advertised... and didn't do a thing to it...

Sorry for the ramblings, this thread really put a smile on my face thinking about "the good old days"...

yea, i know. i'm coming this next year for sure, so make it close. i hear the rumor of michigan being the place. the closer it is the better chance you have of seeing my car again. i do love the road course/autocrossing, after driving in the SRT track experience. that's why i'm building the clone- to autocross and drive more than the "S" car. i'm hoping to have it done by late fall next year, so it won't make an appearance until summer 2008 for any shows or meets.

I really suspect that this car went out to the insurance pool, was snapped up and is still running around somewhere... but I've never seen it again... Maybe someone remembers picking up a burn rebuilder with swiss cheezies in the late 80's????

Nice GLH's guys, they are all gggrrrreat! :) Makes my day!
Gregs is now away for the winter, with some touches coming up for the Spring (ie: foglights and gauges done).. mine will be undergoing the N/A to Turbo 2 swap this Winter so I can finally drive her in the Spring due to my dead motor. :( Cant wait.

Mine is both, started as a non turbo, and now it is turbo.

It doesn't look so good up close, it has dozens upon dozens of door dings and a huge dent in the LF door + that door is rusting clear through at the bottom of course. Those are by far the best pictures of it.

Thanks!

Hey guys, figure I should introduce myself since I have been regularly reading the forums now. Im 18, from VA and the proud owner of a 85 GLH. I got the car a few months ago and immediately did some body work to clean her up and threw on some cheap paint we picked up. I never meant for her to look good, just go get from point A to point B..very fast. Right now it just has 3" exhaust, boost controller set at 18psi and some gauges. I will hopefully be doing the TII conversion this weekend. On with the pictures!

I'd prefer a grey interior on the blue car, but that's me... (plus it would match the grey primer you see where the paint is peeling off).

I'd also prefer the gas pedal sat higher (or the brake pedal lower) for heel-toe. But don't get me wrong, I *love* my GLH!

you can fix that by shimming up the pedal and putting a stop behind it.

Mine wasn't! I started with a non turbo car and they have a tiny little gas pedal. I broke the spring in it though, so now mine wears a GLH go-go pedal...

Glad this thread was revived. Being new here I didn't see it before.

My Dad's got an 86 GLH-T in blue that's totally orig. with 21K on it. (he famous for hording cars like his 58 Caddy fleetwood with 8700 orig miles!) He orig. said it was for my brother, but my bro went the 'kids n minivan' route and I've got 3 (and counting) other TM's so I'm hoping it'll be taking a ride out to OR. some day! :)

My dad drove 4 HorOmni's (3 Horizon's, 1 Omni) for YEARS 'till there wasn't much left to drive. His record is 486K and he just decided to stop when the gas tank fell to the ground (rusted). He used to drive 2.5 hours EACH way to work so each one has WELL over 200K on them. He still loves those cars!

A LOT of very sweet looking GLH's. I tried to buy one new in 86, but could only scrape up enough for the Non-Turbo and knew I'd be miserable so didn't get it. If only.... :D

Yeah. I posted picts of the car when I bought it, and was told it was 1 of 22 made in 86 red w/ gold interior, and 1 of 3 red w/gold interior and no A/C(mine was a factory A/C delete car).

That combo looks great. I was kinda surprised at first but after seeing it, it goes rather well together. Any way of finding out how many black/gold combos there were?

I actually really like the gold interior. Much better than the red that my first GLH had.
