Well, I've swapped between auto/5spd computers on my both my 90Shadow/91Shadow. Everything worked fine.

I know local kid running his 87 Shadow 5spd with an auto computer. He says the car runs like crap at idle. But works good every where else.

They will work, but the best combo is 5spd cal in an auto, the otherway, it will idle funny, badly or not at all. You could play with the throttle plate opening to help I guess. I have done 5spd to auto but never the otherway so not sure what it does.
Why, the idle cals are different between auto and 5spd for obvious reasons, :thumb:

The idle messes up from the torque converter load , or lack thereof depending which way you've swapped . Also a stick cal will hold idle speed 1300-1500 when the vehicle is moving .

I have an SMEC from a turbo/auto Caravan in my Omni GLH, which is still manual. It idles really high on cold startup, especially if it's cold outside. When it's warm it idles a little too low. It idles low with the car coasting too.

Yes, but it really isn't THAT bad. If an auto computer is all you got, run it. Personally I don't think it's worth finding/buying one. I have a 5sp SMEC from my old Shadow I was going to put in my Omni in place of the turbo Caravan SMEC I have but I haven't bothered.
