Anyone have the 3" mandrel kit from FWDP? I was thinking of upgrading, but after looking at the clearance between the gas tank and coil spring--not much room there. What is the stock muffler- 5" round x 15"? Any help greatly appreciated.

I've used the 2.5" kit from them and it does fit ok, just needed to use some really stiff hangers to keep the exhaust from moving around. A center in offest out oval muffler will fit in the stock location at an angle and still put the tip in a normal spot and angle exiting under the rear bumper.

I take it you picked up an R/T?

for some extra clearance I hear you can shift the gas tank over

or you can wrap the exhaust it it doesnt rattle if it hits anything

I'll try to take some pics of the 3" system on my Spirit R/T tonight since I likely won't be breaking it in and it's still on jackstands.

Yeah, you loosen the straps and pry the tank over. YOu can usually gain 1/2 inch or more doing that.

I would only wrap the section that touches, otherwise it will rot the exhaust pipe fairly quickly.

thanks guys! Look forward to your pics, 86shelby. Hey Dave- turns out I DID buy the red R/T from Tim down by your place. WOW, very nice. I will post pics to my I.D. soon. Just trying to fix up what it needs before winter hits. We should get together sometime. I am always looking for more mopar nuts to hang with. I am in Waukesha, WI.

I think I classify as one of these too. If you ever want to take a road trip over to the Monroe area I promise it will be worth your time*cough*7 TIII cars*cough*,more on the way*cough*

Anyways,I have one of the old JRB 3" S/S kits on an R/T and it fit very nice after I moved the tank over about a half inch. I actually bend the part of the tank a little over too. I can almost get 4" to fit now:thumb:

If you end up getting it I could be a pal and let you installit on my hoist too:thumb:

Is your Spirit stock height or lowered or do you plan on lowering it? The panhard bar ends up being the issue, atleast for me. I also had to 'clearance' the pipe over it and it still rattles at times.

First off, the pics are large that's why they are linked. Sorry they aren't at the best angles it's tough getting under the back end of the car.

My car is lowered with Eibachs. The pipes don't rattle except when on very uneven/bumpy roads; like train tracks. I believe the reason it's so quiet is because of the bracket that was made to help hold it in place. All it is an exhaust clamp turned upside down with some hose on there. Looks like I need to replace the hose soon too.:o

I really like the way the muffler and tip are tucked up in the cavity there. You can barely see the tip sticking out when you are walking by or viewing from several feet back. No way to tell that it's 3" pipe coming out either due to the angle of that cut. You don't see the muffler at all unless you get down near the ground.

I've planned on doing something similar to keep it off the panhard bar but haven't had time. For a driver, I would recommend to go with a 2.5" system and Ultraflo muffler.

I had a tough time getting the 2.5" kit to fit. Didn't touch the tank it doesnt rattle. It was very tight. To make up for the smaller size I put in a cut out right before the cat off the down pipe. I also built a 3" downpipe. I didnt use a muffler, just the cat and it has a turn down under the rear bumper. I like the sleeper look, and it has a nice mellow sound at idle, and comes alive under boost. With the cut-out off and some higher boost, its just sounds straight mean!!

MY R/T came with the 3" exhaust and it seems fine. I dont hear any rubbing while I drive the car. Some of the metal behind the bumper was cut to give the muffler more clearance.
