I just got a set for my Menegon 287 head. I tried to put them in, and they wouldn't slide into the bore! Did anybody else have a problem putting theirs in? I was under the impression that they were the same diameter, only .11" shorter. I'm so confused.

Sounds like your having trouble finding the right hole. :) Just kidding.

I've never ran the PT lifters, but I've never heard of anyone having trouble getting them to fit. If your having trouble getting them to fit, I definately would just run some stockers and not have to worry about fitment.

Talk to Simon he's running them, they should be a drop in, maybe they sent you the wrong ones.

They were in the box for PT lifters (part number is correct). I'm waiting to hear back from the guy I bought them from, because I think they may be incorrect.

the part number I used a year or two ago is P5007440. They fit in my 782 head just like the stock ones, bore wise.

Yup, mine too.

Dropped right in. Have you compared length to the stockers. Mustang 4.6L ones look identical, as do Talon ones so they could be boxed wrong?

They are in my G head waiting for an install.

Do you have the picture that was posted that compares the stockers and the PT lifters? The plunger is shorter on these ones. When they are shimed with 2 washers, they are taller than the stockers as well.

I'll post one tonight, I have all the lifters noted above on my shelf except the PT.

Yeah, the middle one is the one I have...but it doesn't fit. :(

talon lifters are a bit taller but same bore. as stated they drop right in.

The plus side is they are a better design and will reduce cam noise and friction.

I too am new to this lifter swap stuff. To use the PT lifter I suspose you must shim it up, right? And those shims are fitted washers? Are they hardened or just mild steel? All I do know is that stock 2.2 lifters are JUNK, brand new. All this may be in the FAQ but I havent looked yet. DaveJ

Yes, you use two washers, hardened is prefered, under the lifter as the body is shorter. The benefits are quieter valves, smoother operation and no pump up at high revs. I will try to find the specs later.

pump up at high revs?

If you lightly float a valve the lifter will fully pump up and that valve will not fully close for quite a while. DaveJ

And depending on engine RPM, piston to valve clearance etc, ugly things can happen, :(

Here is a oict of them installed in my new head. They came with a set of hardended steel washers, and fit nicely by looking at it.

So, today I measured my 2.4L lifters (first generation head) and the stock lifters and the difference came to .160'' This is a lot more than what people are saying to use for the PT lifters, so are they actually different heights, or is there some voodoo in the measurements? I installed them so the unloaded height was the same between the two +/- .001'' and the car sounds excellent at all RPM levels. Just thought I'd point this out...

I have Rob's washers and they spec out to .126", I have also put them side by side and there almost identical so it could be the measuring but as you pointed out, they do run smoothly.

I had to put the stockers back in due to me running an S2 cam and its still quiet, guess its also due to my conicals that I left in, :thumb:

Why can't you run the pt lifters with the TAFT cams?

The base circle is smaller so you need 3-4 shims.

I did Firebaron90's PT lifters & they fit just fine. I ordered another set from the same guy (Rob) and they wouldn't fit in the bore. I measured them and they were 0.0028" fatter than the 2.2 lifters. Still have them. Something about a revamped "new and improved" version with the same part number as the ones that work. All of the sudden there is mayhem with the PT lifter conversions. I was told that Melling is the bad guy here. Order them from the dealer (at dealer price$) and they should fit.

The ones I got initially were the "new and improved" version. They didn't fit. I talked to the guy I bought them from and sent them back. He sent me the older PT lifters, and they fit right in without a problem.

It sounds like it's a good thing that I used the regular Neon lifters if there is a bore problem with some of the others.

Mine came out but you need to run shims with the stock lifters so if one is stuck, thats fine.
