My coolant temp sensor is bugging me. I have a digital readout on it and it is way low. This is the third sensor I have put in it. The first read 158 at warm and 176 at the most, after beating on it. The second maxed at 113, damn near overheating, oil vaporizing. This one is a genuine 50 ----ing dollar mopar sensor, and the seems to be warm at 99 (egts look good and idle levels out) and seems to be pretty warm around 106. It is a two wire sensor. Two guages hooked to it read lower than those did with the first sensor, so the guage is not the issue, the latter of which being the readout on the SDS standalone which adjusts variables based on temp, which is why I need to remedy this issue.

It is in the stock location.

What if you put an adjustable amplifier in line that boosted the voltage signal of the sensor to match the readout on a mechanical gauge? Perhaps the quality control for the sensors is good enough for what our cars want to use them for, but not for what you need.

where are you getting your readings from? I've heard when using some of the scanners the readings could be off a bit. Here are a couple of threads where people are having similar troubles.

The reading is coming from two places, the dash guage (which apparently has been wired to the same sensor by the guy I bought the car from) and the SDS computer, which is not a scanner, but is the computer that makes the car move, so if the SDS is getting wrong signals, then there is a real problem.

could it be that the SDS is not compatable with the mopar sensor? Mabey you need one from a different manufacturer?

Shouldn't the coolant gauge in the dash be using the sender in the head between #1 and 2? I have never heard of anyone wiring it into the CTS for any reason.

I know to use the mopar sensor with megasquirt you need to put in a different resistor in one spot. Perhaps you are correct.
