Has anyone replaced a Auto trans before? I have found a really clean 96 Breeze that needs a trans for 400 Bux. Im looking for a second car so I can keep the Tona parked and pretty

I've also found a 90 J convert that over heated and now wont start, Looks like a V6 car for 400 as well. Im thinking HG and then spun a bearing?

Any case what you think?

get'em sounds like simple fixes. the breeze should be the 4-speed 604 i think. make sure you get a good low mileage used one or a quality rebuilt one. its not hard to get them in and out.

try to get a 93 and newer 3.0L though that has the valve guide clips.

If the Breeze has the 3 spd auto, your laughing, there cheap to rebuild or find a good used core-its the same trans as our cars/vans have. If its the 4spd, there alot harder to find and alot of money to rebuild. Taking them in and out is fairly simple, you need to support the engine, same as a TM. Both trannies are the same for difficulty.

If that breeze has a 2.0 or 2.4, I'm sure you can put a Neon's 3 speed automatic on where the crappy bzzztick was. That would be pretty sweet I think.

that would be sweet but youd have to keep the ecu happy depending on the local inpection stuff... ie obd-2 scanning. if thats an issue, you can use a caravan 2.4L harness for the 3-speed.

what engine in in the car?

Is it 2dr or 4dr? If its 4dr should be a 2.4 and 4spd. If its 2dr its same setup as an Eclipse 2.0

No 2dr Breeze. 1st gen cloud cars, the 2 dr was the Avenger and Sebring. 4dr was Dodge Stratus, Chrysler Cirrus, and Plymouth Breeze.

The transmission is going to be the early version of the 41TE which is slightly updated version of the A604. 4 speed auto.

if its the 2.0 or 2.4 you could always go the five speed route and use the neon 5 speed. if not the tranny should be the 4 speed auto which is the 41TE, but they are a slushbox but if you take care of them and not race em to much they'll last a while.

i think the cloud of that era came with a 2.0L and a 5-speed anyway and used the same trans as the neon. the wiring harness for that combo would be tricky though as they never had a 2.4L with a 5-speed im pretty sure. maybe use a pt cruiser ecu and a 2.0L 5-speed harness and move some pins around to get the correct harness/ecu combo to keep things happy.

funny that the wife didnt like the breeze... those were the best cars of that kind you could get in 96... ive never owned one but would like to.

the 604 will last if you treat it right, regardless of power or weight on a stock car. my moms 97 3.3 grand caravan has about 208k on the original 604, and that thing makes at least 50% more torque than most of the cloud cars, and the thing weighs 4k lbs when its EMPTY. a cooler is the #1 preventive maintenance on a 604, occasional fluid changes are the other.

even our 1989 (FIRST YEAR) 604 van went 180+k before starting to slip.

as far as rebuilding them.. i prefer those to 3 spds because as long as you dont leave any parts out and quick learn it.. it WILL work. the 3 spd is easier to mess up and have to mess with it after install to get it to work perfect. also 3 spds sucks unless you have turbo torque.

on the 3.0, i wouldnt assume anything about spun bearings.. open it up to be sure.

good luck and post back when you get one.
