First off have a website with more info and all my pics at http://www.moparmen.ca.
I got the car when I was 3 months away from being 16. I paid $600 and tax for a 1992 N/A Dodge Shadow with a broken rim, control arm, bent frame and bent sway bar. Came as a four door and about 170,000km. Fixed everything but the frame in our garage at home. Got it safetied and dad drove it for the other two months before I got my license. On my 16th birthday I got my license and went out driving and it ended up getting it's first stains.
I started out rice. Painted everything from the rad and oil caps to the battery hold down and AC pipes red or blue. Then I got into interior painting, stereos and $40 car alarms. UUUUGGGGHHHH. DUMB! Anywho I got floormats and mudflaps, neon lights and LED lights. They were pretty cool for a bit then the neons kept breaking. Some of the shoddy wiring to get them in led to a small fire at one point. The coolest thing I did stereo wise was installed an amp under my pass seat, put in component speakers on the doors, and made a double amp 'offset bunkbed' style rack that bolts into the spare tire well. Currently has an Lightning Audio amp powering Ultimate component speakers on the doors, Orion amp powering Sound Stream 6X9's on a new rear deck seperator made out of real wood and Alpine headunit that does mp3's, has 3 banks of rca outs and is programmable for the EQ's.
Did the sticker crazy thing on the back windows and the read window and even the eyebrow on windshield. Put some gay flame pinstriping on the side at one point also and debaged the back since they looked like crap. Put on a JSP Apache spoiler that was painted black with blue flake. Did the mirrors and hood cowl at same time the same colour, looked sweet. Someone eventually ripped off the spoiler one night.
Got some shiny hubcaps and when they got jacked I painted stock ones red (WTF). Tried to attack part of a Sunfire front bumper to my front bumper as a 'kit'. That got taken off pretty quick since I couldn't do it right. Made a stainless steel grill for in the stock header panel and for the bottom of bumper air intake.
Made a cold air intake by totally taking out the heated air inlet assembly and using dryer ducting and a Ractive cone filter. More paint in engine bay and did I tell you that at one point I had a red hood cowl?
Before most of this I had replaced a cracked head on the car also.
Cracked up the back bumper bad one damn chilly night dowing some dumb ---- and since the car was in way back shape I decided i really wanted to paint it and make real bumpers. Made a lowered back bumper by adding a piece of a stock one to the bottom of a stock one. At this time I also got the idea for my header panel and signal lights. Made cardboard chark fins, wrapped them in aluminum tape and then fiberglassed them onto the header panel. Put an aluminum grill behind it with the fins poking holes through it. Made stainless steel signal and marker lights from SS 3M bodykit with the tape on one side. Used a holesaw to drill the holes. I replaced the orange lenses with plexiglass. Put a cherry bomb muffler on there with a big stainless tip.
Somewhere in here I bougth a lowering spring kit and installed it with new shocks and struts.
By this time I've got big stereo in car (15inch sub in a box is heavy) and no power. I remember going down to the performance/stereo shop in town with gf to get my 17inch wagon wheels and talking Dodge performance with this guy there. His buddy (Noel Macnavena?) was racing these damn cars and I was stunned. Got his phone number and that eventually led me here over a year and a half later.
Learned some things and went out to jy and bought a 1988 Dodge Shadow ES donor car. The fuel lines were pinched but we drove it home anyway since I was too cheap for a tow. We yanked the engine, the wires, the roof (sunroof that is now on my car) rear window, spoiler (on my car now), trans, power door locks and the arm rests and wires for them (for sale), head visors (for sale), and other misc stuff.
Rebuilt the 2.2 in there to a .020 over with hypertecs in it. MBC'ed it and had some good fun. First night out I drove a few miles out of town. When I came back in and stopped at the walmart parking lot the engine bar started on fire and cabin filled with smoke instantly. Had used synflex hose, used for brake lines on semis. Worked good when cold oil was going through it but not once the brass fittin on the turbo is super hot and no oil is going through. Fixed that and got back on road.
Had some real bad troubles with a couple A413's going back and a broken flexplate and such so Swapped in an A520 (one I had given Noel out of the 88 Shadow and he gave me back) on a weekend and burnt the tires off my wagon wheels in a week.
Going about 210km/h one night coming back from a wedding I hit hard detonation. About a week later racing my brother the car gave up and had to tear it down and replace piston #4 as it was cracked up bad.
Engine cept mixing oil into the antifreeze after that and I tried 2-3 headgasket changes and that didn't fix it.
Now its end of 05 and I want to paint my car and have a claim through insurance that will pay for the supplies if we do the labour. Well over the next 25 months we take the car down to bare metal, patch holes, make a front bumper, modify the back one, take off the stock mouldings and install a sunroof and spoiler, modify the sundance taillights and get rid of the crease in the back where the taillight corners go down to the bumper. Doors came off, windshield and back window, everything came apart. Only thing we didn't pain was the inside of the car (yes did door jambs) and engine bay, or underside of car. Once it was painted I did some rockergaurding and made a SS kickplate/bodykit for the sides of the car. Also moved foglights to behind the header panels grill and put in a Mazda 626 oil cooler for my turbo.
Installed a FMIC in the big hole that is in the front bumper. Got ahold of a genuine RFL and fabbed that up.
Decided to build a 2.5L .020 over, no balance shafts, bigger turbo engine. Stock intake and exhaust but with forged piston and a FWD Stage 5 comp and TU T2/T3 PP and clutch combo. Devils own progressive alky kit also.
As some of you may know this engine went like a bat out of hell once I got it timed right and then it leaned out or heated up and melted my forged buddies.
Well time to rebuild with .040 over and use and egt gauge to measure temp, got an adjustable cam sproket at the same time. Also put a chromoly plate into the A520.
Again melted the engine down this time due to too much timing I guess. Blew the HG out 3 ways from the #4 cyl and melted it and the head bad. Still had 90 compression after it blew out all of the coolant through the overflow tube/can. My current 2.2 has screwed rings and is at 90 compression.
Guess thats All I can think of about my car right now. 1200-1300 words is probably enough.
Currently 2.2L .020 over, mitsu turbo, A520, lowered, perf street tires on stock 15's, oil cooler for turbo, FMIC, RFL, walbro pump, battery in trunk, stock comp, and thats about it.
Spring: 11 inch rotors, minivan calipers, ceramic pads, 2.5 CB shafts removed, mistu 16g turbo, recaled stage 5 comp, adjustable cam sproket, OBX LSD, forged wisecos, ported manifolds, ported head, bigger valves, 52 mm tb, alky injection and some other smalls goodies.
(will be posting up more pictures to my site in the next week or so)
