I'm looking for a new car of the girlfriend. She likes the look of the 2 door 2001-up Sebring, Stratus, etc. I'd like to get one with the 2.4L, not a V-6.
So... did they even make a coupe with the 2.4L? I can only seem to find the coupes with v6s or with the mitsu 4 cylinder.
Any opinions?

This is a v-6 sebring, but this is the body style she likes. I think the stratus and avengers are the same style?

Would this car have the chrysler 2.4?

Coupe = reskinned eclipse
Sedan = all Chrysler

You can't get a Couple with the Chrysler 2.4L in it... you can only get it with the Mitsubishi 2.4L. The engines are completely different.

The 2nd gen Coupes are the Stratus and Sebring... no Avenger. 1st gen was Avenger and Sebring. No coupe for the 3rd gen.

Talk her into an '04 Sebring Sedan with the 2.4L. :thumb:

Looks nice!

Thanks for the info.
I've tried to get her into the sedan, but she doesn't like the 4 door, even though it is more practical.

I guess it'll have to be the 2.7L or the 3.0. Any opinions on either of those? I know the 2.7s are good engines if they are maintained and get pretty good fuel mileage.

The 2.7 wasn't available in the coupes to my knowledge, just the 3.0. I haven't heard of any issues with them, a bonus is that they were available with a 5-speed if your girlfriend likes to shift her own gears.

Why do you want a 2.4L? for future turbo charging?

I would say the V6 would be better, more torque for a heavier car so it should perform better and get better mpg.

if you want a coupe and dont like the 2.4 mitsu, all you get is the 3.0.

its a perfectly decent engine, power is liveable but unimpressive with an auto. 5-speed is fun. Just think of it as a 3.0 eclipse +200 lbs, you can find all relevant mod info for the engine on eclipse forums. 3.5 swap into those is pretty easy.

i think the 2.4 is a decent engine. it will be slow with auto, like high 16s at best. 5speed 2.4 might be faster than auto 3.0 up to normal speeds tho.

No turbocharging or any kind of performance modification. I was just looking for the 4 cylinder for fuel economy.
I guess the 3.0 is the only option, then. Is that the same 3.0 that came in our cars, like in the shadows, daytonas, etc?

Stay away from any used Chrysler car with a 2.7V6.

I pulled a valve cover on a 2.7 in the junkyard for it's rocker arms. I couldn't get my socket on the cam caps. Even after knocking all the sludge that turned into dirt of the caps.

You should do some research on the 2.7V6 before you think they are any good.

The only problem I have heard of them having is from people not changing the oil and letting it get gunk build-up, which gums up the timing chain tensioners and makes cams jump.

What other problems do they have?

2.7L = Chrysler V6, only in the Sedan.
3.0L = Mitsubishi engine, only in the Coupe.

The 2.7L in the Sedan is known for sludge issues. It also has 0 aftermarket.

3.0L in the Coupe... like I said, it's just a reskinned Eclipse. So you pretty much have the same aftermarket that the Eclipse has.

3.0L Mitsu, as in the same Mitsu as ours or a redesigned engine?

same basic bottom end but a 4-valve per cylinder sohc head setup as opposed to our old 2-valvers. so for the most part it is a different engine.

You remember the 2.5L v6 from the JA cars? very similar design found in the mitsu 3L (24 valve) but with more power. Too bad she doesn't like the 4 door JR body.

2.7's don't last over 100,000 due to small oil passages. if your not religious about changing the oil....KABOOM!
