Hello all! I found this site the other night and have really enjoyed it. I have a 1985 laser XT that I purchased used in 1989. I have always been a v8 person I also still have a 70 AAR cuda, but loved driving the laser 30 mpg and would really scream above 3000 rpm. My son would like to restore the laser, it has been sitting for several years and needs some tlc. The rear bumper cover has been torn and needs to be replaced or repaired. Does anyone know how to repair these plastic covers, or have a cover for sale?
Thanks Scott

there is a 2 part flexible urethane (ithink) epoxy made for bumper repair. ive used it once on a bumper, it didnt last too long. i didnt use a generous amount on the repaired area.

You really have to use it liberally for it to work. You also have to cut a v shaped groove into the cracked area. I used it in my modified airdam opening and it still looks good as new. I cut the two vertical posts out and epoxied in to patch pieces of plastic.

Is it a Laser XT? If so it would either be a 1985 1/2, or 1986. There was no 1985 Laser XT.

That said, which rear bumper do you have? The 85 1/2 XT is the same as the 86 XT (and the same as some 86 XE's) -- that is, smooth molding.

The "normal" 1985 Laser and some 85 Laser XE's molding has that "4 line ribbed" look to it.

If you have the 4 line ribbed version I have a rear cover that is that burnt ornagish-bronze in color, and is an 8/10 (some scuffing). Let me know!!

There's a Lazer at a local junkyard I could get the bumper cover from. It's an XT.
