View Full Version : New M&H slicks at the track

The M&H slicks were real nice to have on the CSX for the first
time! I could still only pull off 2.00 60' times, but it ran around
8.3's to 8.4's all night and in the last race I put down the following
60'..........2.079
330'........5.476
330 MPH..68.55
1/8.........8.218
MPH........88.43
with solid 22-23 psi of boost, VP109 fuel, and a calibration which was still under construction for the gas.
The CSX was running
84 MPH consistent with the slicks and the previous tune I drove in on. Advancing 1.5 degrees more ignition timing granted another 2 MPH bringing it up to 86 MPH. 1 degree more advance gained another 2 MPH which lead to the 88 MPH run.

My buddy with the Z28 (in the previous thread Z28 calls me out (http://www.turbo-mopar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18238))called me out again this time with a 50HP and 75HP shot of Nitrous. He did run an 8.6 sec 1/8th, but I guess it still wasn't enough:thumb: .

My bosses 2007 Corvette run pretty good with 8.6's all night. I'm not sure if he tuned it or not at this point.

Video will be posted soon.

Cool :thumb:

You couldn't get it to leave harder without spinning or ???

I just looked at the logs and it looks like I just didn't get the time to spool it up enough between the staging lights and the green. Because I was having a blast trying to beat some opponents to the traps I just couldn't wait for the spool up. All runs were launched between 2 and 6 psi boost. 6 psi granted a 2.002 60' with an 8.24 1/8th. A 4 psi launch showed a 2.078 60' but with the 8.21 1/8th. All launches pulled around .74-.78 g's. It takes everything I have locking my body between the seat and the brake pedal to hold the car still at 6 psi boost since the 50 trim T04E/Stage 2 turbo. Also, the N/A power is so much more since the new rings and new head. I believe I've arrived at needing line locks:nod: .

The slicks had 11 psi with no wheel spin at all leaving the line. I wonder if more psi in the tires would help since they were not spinning???

BTW: Thanks for the info, 1st and 2nd felt like 1 single long gear on my first 8.20 run. :thumb:

Sorry if I missed it, but what size slicks?

Stratman
10-08-2007, 11:54 AM
24.5 x 8.5 x 15 mounted on 6.5" wide Crabs.

Yeah, you should really be able to leave the line with some boost running that size slick. What kind of stall are you running?

Stratman
10-08-2007, 12:10 PM
3800 stall. I can pull alot more boost off the line, but they were not holding the lights for very long at all when we staged, plus holding the brake to get the car not to move is becoming a problem. It takes around 2-3 sec to build up to 10 psi at the line at WOT. I really need some line locks.

Well done. My 1/8th mile on my 12.77 run was 8.19 @85.9, so you should have yourself a 12 second car.

What master cylinder are you running?

Stratman
10-08-2007, 02:55 PM
I remember replacing it with an Autozone part for the 87 Shadow with rear disk I think. I can tell you that car stops incredibly fast and stable at high speeds.
When the other lane is already staged, I believe I am trying to boost the car on the first stage light and easing up on the brake enough to move into the second light which makes it very hard to get the same brake pressure to stop the car while in boost. Which master cylinder are you running?

You can always camp out at the green light ;)
Unless you are running heads up with your friend or boss. :P

There are a couple things you can try to get the 60 better, try advancing the cam a couple degrees as long as it doesnt kill the top end to much. Also if you have a way to pull timing below your stall speed try pulling about 18 to 20 degrees from 2800 to 3500 rpm and believe me that baby will spool like a mad dog.It sounds like the converter may be a little tighter than you think, what kind of rpm are you turing through the traps?what gear ratio? And are you in 2nd or 3rd?

Converter is known, 3600-3800 stall.
I believe 4700-4800 RPM at the traps at 88 MPH
I believe overall ratio is 3.49
3rd at the traps.

Here is the fastest run to date in the CSX. I was by myself and completely missed a good chance to sit at the light and spool up. Left the line at 6 psi:

Cool videos :thumb:

You did the right thing by NOT camping at the light against your buddies :)

Cutting a light REALLY counts in an 1/8 mile race

Try camping at the light once and see how much longer it takes to get it up to 10 psi for the launch ;)

It didn't look like it was trying to roll while you were spooling it up.

Thanks Terry,
It rolled on me at the Z28 calls me out 2 race. That's the only time it actually rolled that night and I think it was just because it was hard to get stoped after I inched into the second stage light while under boost.

The CSX definately seems like it's launching good. I think I need to lay on it hard and not worry about the diff. We'll see how it goes at the 1/4 mile on the 20th!

Hughes performance converter. It was Matt Leshiers personal trans and converter which I had him crack open and loosen it up even more before he sent it. It is real loose down low and fairly efficient up top. He said they try to keep converters around 12% efficient in the upper RPM's.

I don't guess my boss takes to loosing to a little 4 cylinder that well. When he got to work this morning he told me to grab a broom and sweep the lab every hour, LOL. He sid 6 passes around the lab is an 1/8 mile.:)

Was it shifting into 3rd finally?

Stratman
10-09-2007, 09:01 PM
Yes, I found the combo, LOL. I have to drive to the line in 3rd gear. I'm not sure if that just causes some fluid to be primed for 3rd gear, but it just works. It seems to shift much better when I short shift to 2nd around 4900and shift to 3rd a little sooner than normal. It's pretty cool to watch the 8.21 vid and hear the Shelby sound like it has one long gear.

Because I don't like to produce low resolution video and the video card on your work system probably sucks. Try to right click the link and "Save Target As" to the the desktop or "My Documents" then watch it.

That was a great race!

You need to give me the full info on your fastest time slip that night. I think I have the video, but it doesn't show the time.

Actually, I found that I don't have a problem holding it back. I just can't boost and inch forward for the second staging lights and apply the brakes fully again. I figured alot of stuff out with the new setup Saturday. Since the last five passes were all consistant at 113 MPH at 26 psi boost, I worked alot on driving the car.

DUHHHHHH!!!! I've known how a brake booster works since I was a small child, I just thought my Superman calf muscles would overpower 300 ftlbs of torque :D ,LOL

I ran a leakdown test and nothing is wrong. All percentages are within 1% since the last time I checked and no bubbly in the radiator. I forgot about adding some water when I put the new intercooler in last Thursday. I think it just spit out what it didn't want.

A nice big vacuum canister and a check valve between it and the intake manifold will help with that!
