Simon, the one that bolts to the P/S pump bracket is the serpentine belt tensioner pulley. Those are only about $20 new from the dealer.

Nope, the timing belt idler pulley bolts up to the power steering pump bracket. Trust me, I just did it and couldn't use it due to the larger intermediate shaft gear.

I've only owned mine for about 4 days now so I don't know what anything looks like!:o I was going to make a call based on what they look like, if they look weak, I'd get one just in case, but having just purchased the car, I don't have a whole lot of $$ left to spend on something that might never wear out. Like I mentioned, I'm a bit ignorant of these engines so... No offense intended.

Honestly, for a $100, get one, you'll need it one day, ;)

Uppon further inspection the pulleys I have are not an exact replacement,
they are the same width, same size bolt hole, they are a very small amount
larger in diameter (mabey a 1/8th) & require a 3/8 washer or two depending on thickness to be used as a spacer behind the pulley.
But they are available and not NS1 & cheaper.

Not sure I follow you here.

In the first quote you say they are new mopar pulleys....

Then you mention you need spacers and they are larger in diameter?

The last batch I bought from Mopar were exact replacements. Did Mopar change the specs of the over the counter piece?

The pulleys I have are a match to a pulley I bought on ebay as a NOS TIII idler pulley but upon further inspection hey are not exacxtly the same as an
OEM pulley for a TIII but they are factory mopar pulleys and they will work on a TIII with a thick flat washer behind them as a spacer, if you would like to buy one I will provide the spacer.

I made a mistake, what don't you understand?

Nevermind!!

I made a mistake, what don't you understand?

The fact a washer is needed.

I have a few NOS pieces and I don't recall needing a washer to use them.

Not my first rodeo with a T3.

Sorry for asking.

These wouldn't happen to be for the Chrysler 3.5L V6 would they?

I bought a timing belt idler pulley for a '96 Chrysler Concorde w/ 3.5L V6 today.

Here are some pictures comparing it with a NOS TIII timing belt idler pulley. In the pictures, the TIII unit is on the left, 3.5L unit on the right. It looks like it will work fine as a replacement but may need a washer on the backside to space it out a little. I have not actually tried it on my vehicle but it does look promising.

Forgot to add, the 3.5L pulley was only $29.98 at Advance. I tried to get it at the Mopar dealer but the parts guy couldn't find it.

I just ordered a couple from Autozone, guess we'll see if they are right or not, though the picture they showed did look promising. I'll post some picts once I have them in-hand.

I'll try to install the 3.5L pulley on a running Spirit R/T tomorrow, weather permitting. I think it will work with about 1/8" spacer, but we'll see.

Oh sure rub it in! :D Don't worry, the Spirit will rise again, once I get mine from Autozone!

Actually, I just got done! I've only put about five miles on it, but the car runs/drives/sounds the same as ever. All I needed was a washer to space it out a tad (less than 1/8" on my car) and it bolted right on and the belt centers nicely on the pulley. Cheap and readily available idler pullies for everybody!

Here's some pictures of the one I got from Autozone. Unfortunately I don't have the one off the engine to compare it to. I'm thinking it'll need some washers to be backspaced properly, based on the other pictures. What do you all think?

That looks like the pulley that is used for the serpentine belt idler and tensioner...available at the Mopar parts desk for about $20.

That's kinda what I was thinking... Looks like I'll be buying on of the V6 units and a couple of washers!

Yep, those are in the alternate parts thread, serpentine idler pulleys and don't need any spacers.
