I have removed my mirrors, and decided to remove the metal bracket so I could prep it for paint. Well when I removed the last screw, the plate inside the mirror fell out. It looks like there's 2 phillips screws inside which hold the mirror to the housing. How do I get to those screws without busting up my mirror? Is there access under the glass if removed?

Also, has anybody attempted to put power mirrors on an omni/charger? Did any ever come with that option, or will I need to go to another car and adapt to my housings?

Forgot to mention it's for a charger.

Thanks

David

I am not sure about gaining access to the inside of the mirror, but if I am down my garage this week I shall check on some extras that we have. If it comes down to it, perhaps my brother can even hook you up with an extra set we have.

As for power mirrors, no L-bodies ever came with a power-mirror option. I would not be an expert in this area, but I'd say your best bet, if looking to go that route, would be to take the power setup from a G or H body and fab. it up. I do not know if it is possible to turn manual L-body side mirrors into power mirrors. You may be able to get away with side mirrors from an H body, but I do know they are a bit larger than L-body ones.

Either way, this would definitely be something neat to see done! Keep us updated!

How about eliminating the charger mirrors all together and putting something different on?

Maybe Some bullet mirrors? http://cgi.ebay.com/FORD-CAPRI-ESCORT-CORTINA-RETRO-MIRRORS_W0QQitemZ8042338812QQcategoryZ27377QQrdZ1Q QcmdZViewItem

I painted my mirriors on my Shelby Charger. They are a royal pain to take apart and even worse putting them back together without scratching the paint. Just remember how they go back together. I had a spare, so I didn't have to remember. The only way to get to the screws inside is to pull the mirror glass as far out as possible and stick a screwdriver in there. If you don't want to mess with that, you could always mask off the mirror. Of course, that won't look as professional.

I did discover that under the glass, the mount has holes in it to get to the mount screws. This discovery came with the sacrifice of one mirror glass  I guess the glass is attached with something that looks like liquid nails, and is even stronger.
