View Full Version : What type of Fuel Pressure Guage

Just trying to add a few odds and end to my build to help monitor things. I am curious what people are using to monitor their fuel pressure. I cant quite figure out what is going to work out better. Running an electric gauge inside the car, or using a mechanical gauge under the hood. Any thoughts? If I run one inside the car, I can use an electric autometer gauge that will match the rest of my gauges (I know, im lame..)and then I can monitor it while driving, but under the hood seems like it will be easier to check the pressure and adjust while the car is idling. I have seen the little small mechanical gauge that cindy sells that certainly fits nicely on the fuel rail, so I guess thats an option. I have very little experience messing with boost, so please excuse the noobie question here.

BTW, I will be running an egt gauges, and eventually a wideband to help monitor everything.

I have an underhood gauge on my Spirit R/T. It's the little mechanical one FWDP sells and is mounted on the end of the FWDP TIII fuel rail. Works great! I use it to set base pressure but it's also nice to keep tabs on the base pressure at idle to watch for consistency. Not that I don't think having a gauge in the car would be nice, but I can think of a few other gauges I'd rather have taking up valuable real estate in a gauge pod.

I have two mechanicals: one under the hood and one in the car. The only problem with doing that is that you need to buy an isolator for the gauge in the car so that you don't have gasoline flowing into the passenger compartment. It's a a little bit of work to install because you have to fill the line with antifreeze and get all the air out. I personally prefer mechanical gauges for their full sweep and fast response, but that's just me.

I have a crapometer electric one inside the car.

I use a guage under the hood to mess around with but if running it inside the car, use an electric one.
DON'T leave a guage hooked up to the fuel line fitting, it will break, tee it off the fuel line using a brass tee, like so-

Mine is mounted to the L/S strut tower. It is a Autometer Phantom. It came in handy once when my FMU was stuck and I was getting 100 plus psi. and it wouldnt go down.

So answer me this, does the gauge need to be getting a pressure reading from a source after the fuel pressure regulator? Thats sort of what I was figuring.

before the fpr, the reg keeps the press and bleeds off the rest. So normally its at the rail or at/on the fpr

Thanks. I was thinking that it went after for some reason.
