so i sold my '91 Turbo 5-speed Cutlass sedan about 3 weeks ago for $2000. i bought a 'new' car today. like my Cutlass, this one is also Turbo, 5-speed, blue, '91, a sedan, and domestic lol. unlike my Cutlass, it has wayyyyy more potential, way less miles, and is just all together a much nicer car IMHO. 115,000 miles, very clean interior, NO RUST at all! i need to replace the front bumper obviously, as well as the turbocharger and buy a new oil/coolant line set. the previous owner lost the keys, so i either have to get new door/trunk lock cylinders and a new ignition switch or get keys made for them. hopefully that is all it needs to get it going again but i'm sure there will be a few other things that pop up as well.

anyways, didn't have time to do anything to it today besides get some pics...

as you can probably tell the car used to be white. the airbox and some other misc. underhood parts are in the trunk; it's all there. as for the front bumper cover, my brother and i found this 3.0L Spirit ES at a local j/y:

http://www.turbosedan.com/spiritrt/DSC03456.JPG (<-- even has the correct grill :D )

i paid $800, not bad for a complete, totally rust free 115,000 mile Spirit R/T. i didn't even have to go anywhere to get it either, the car was already sitting in the apartment parking lot where i live :p this is the only other Spirit R/T i have ever seen besides my brother's red '91 R/T. besides the color, this one is optioned exactly like his. i'm going to peel off those cheesy graffics tomarrow. i already peeled off the part that was on the driver's side fender as you can see in the pics above and it came off real easy.

Isnt there already an RT owner in Wyoming, or is that you? I just remember reading someones sig line that said 'only one in Wyoming' or something to that effect.

So is your car one of the 8 blue Spirit RT's:lol: ?

Seems like everyone is getting these things lately! I'm going to get mine this weekend, wish me luck as it is in AZ so it'll be 7+hrs there and back, IF nothing goes haywire!

In regards to your key situation, you'll likely save yourself alot of time and headaches and maybe even a little $$ if you call a locksmith to come and make some keys for you, especially if you have AAA+ (that's what I have). Especially since it's not an emergency.

I know. For such a rare vehicle, seems everyone is selling or parting them (and not as many buying)

I saw that car online a year or two ago as I think it was on ebay possibly. $800 is a deal even if the motor is bad.

Have the bumper & grill from the j-yard resprayed bright blue; add some rims and it would look pretty damn nice. If I ever found one like that I'd definitely leave it a different color!

it was probably me that posted pics of the car awhile ago (back in spring of 2005). the car was advertised for sale but i could not afford it at the time. i think the owner wanted $3000 for it. the car was sold to the guy i bought it from. here is the car back in 2005...looked a little nicer then!

as for the color, i really would like to repaint it the original white! i remember seeing this car in town a long time ago, maybe 2002. it was white back then but it looked terrible; the paint was coming off in large chunks. to be honest the blue paint on the car looks way worse in person. very amature job.

Nice score for sure.

Funny how a few years drops the price from $3000 to $800,

ecspecially considering how much money the guy i bought it from had put into the car. the engine had just been rebuilt earlier this year, along with a newly rebuilt turbo from FWDP. not sure how it blew so fast but i know it still has the stock lines. i'm not sure what else was replaced but i do know the engine was rebuilt along with the turbo. my brother and i both seen the car all taken apart just a few months ago.

the guy i bought it from said he thought the head gasket blew because it was smoking really bad. he didn't say anything about the fubar turbo so i don't think he realized what the real problem was. maybe the head gasket did blow, but the oil is still really clean and full. i will be checking plugs first thing tomarrow. fwiw i looked at the core plugs in the head and i cannot see any signs of a crack.

Yay another TIII to play with! I was thinking of buying the car but since I already have the same kind of car I passed on it. It's optioned exactly like my '91 Spirit R/T too. It should be running soon. I have a spare turbo I'm selling to my bro (TurboSedan) and we just need to order some new SS oil/coolant lines. I really like the color and would probably have it repainted the same blue if it were my car, including the grille just like the fatory would have done. And some blue powder coated valve covers/intake would look awesome.

well it looks like the head is coming off. i pulled the spark plugs and they don't look so good. they all looked like they were very blackened/fouled with fuel. the #3 plug had rusty looking coolant on the porcelain and threads and the #4 plug had oil/coolant milkshake stuff on it but like the #3 plug, only on the porcelain and the threads. not sure what that means. cracked head? i used a magnet and discovered that the core plugs were the original steel plugs.

more than likely the entire drivetrain will come out and i'm going to go through it during the winter. i'm not really planning on doing anything wild/expensive.

i almost have all of those graphics off on one side. more of a pita than i thought it would be. hopefully i'll be done with that tomarrow, along with getting the interior cleaned out and vacuumed. i can't really do much now except for save $$$ and buy parts for it, but that was expected. i also have to get the engine back in my GS so i'll be busy with that for a little while yet. man it sucks not having a car.

oh yeah, the car seems to be optioned just like my brohter's red Spirit R/T, except that his has lighted mirrors in the sun visors and mine does not. i'll try to get some more pics up soon.

Whoah youngest Mitchell brother, don't go pulling the head in haste:( Lots of tuning issues can give you sooty plugs and the threads can/will get gunky like that if there is a puddle of the oily stuff in the plug galley when you back them out. Lets diagnose a bit more before you and your bro attack it with breaker bars;) Lots of guys running the steel core plugs with no issues so cross that bridge when you come to it. Focus on the basics first, I think I have kept up with this thread but have you done some diagnosing that I missed? Pull the head off a TIII and it costs PLENTY to put it back on again with all the things that you 'should do' while you are in there...

ha, i actually am the youngest of all my brothers

i would like to get it running at least enough to do a compression check. i'm buying a good stock R/T turbo from my brother. besides that i know i'll need a new braided SS line kit. i'm really not sure what else will be needed as i have not had time to really look into it yet. i thought the plugs were covered in burnt oil when i first took them out, but it turned out to be fuel. the spark plugs were not tight at all; just barely tighter than hand tight. they are Bosch Platinum plugs fwiw. the motor oil does look pretty darn clean though (and full...a little too full actually). i'll have to take a look at the coolant tomarrow.

Loose plugs will for sure give you those oily/gunky threads. Keep digging, your getting it ironed out an issue at a time;)

i would like to lower it. i'm actually going to be lowering my Regal GS tomarrow with adjustable KYB AGX struts and SSC lowering springs  i wish the AGX struts were available for the Turbo Mopars. my Regal is taking up all of my time right now. Jeremy and i just put the L67 back in yesterday so hopefully i'll be done with it soon so i can concentrate on the R/T.
