I posted these over on TD and figured I would show you guys over here as well. The car is nowhere near done but close enough to drive. I will post more when I get farther along. What do you guys think?

Surely you have another car more in need of a paint job than the Daytona. It looks to me like it HAS a real paint job:confused2: but I may not have the discerning eye that you do Jackson:lol:

No pics to post, but just wanted you to know that Jackson certainly knows how to "pose" a car for effect! Mirrors were placed very effectively, and the underside was way cleaner than most (if not all) of the top sides of the cars there. Really shows the effort in the car, I was truly amazed!
Someone gotta have pics to post!!!!!!!?????
P.S., great to have met you, Jackson. Hope you enjoyed the party!

Those were a big conversation piece at Carllisle. The car did not come with them originally of course. I got them from a member off the board here. I would actually like to find out more info on these if anyone actually knows. I know there was a set in the 90 VNT "dealer brochure car" and there might of been some production units on some Euro export cars in 90 as well. Evertime I see a 90+ Daytona I look and see if there might be a set of these switches there in the console but never any luck...

The option was ONLY available in 1990. The 1990 FSM even has troubleshooting and schematics and all for it.

I know a LONG time ago there was a person on the SDML that had found a car(I want to say it was a LeBaron) in a wrecker that had the complete system on it. He snagged the system and intalled it on his 1990 Pilot Daytona VNT(which was red). I don't know what ever happened to that car, but there USED to be pictures of it someplace! I know a few of the prototype Shelby cars got it too. I have a friend who claims to have sat in a Daytona in the mid '90's on a used car lot that had it.

I talked with a man several years ago at the Carlisle show who had a red VNT LeBaron. He told me that he had a relative that worked on the line that made the LeBarons. From what he was told, there were a few that DID get out of the factory with the VDS them, but most were VNT LeBarons. No estimate on how many though :( He also told me his car was SUPPOSED to have gotten it, but they had discontinued the option before they made his car(he had ordered his car from the dealer).

So....they ARE out there(or were). Who knows how many, and who knows how many survived.

ScottD
07-21-2008, 12:20 PM
+1 on Chris' recollection of the SDML story. I think it was a Lebaron in a junkyard the system was found on. And if I remember correctly the yard was somewhere in Michigan, was it not?

Scott, you are 100% correct. It was a wrecker in Michigan, and I'd like to say it was around the Detroit area, but don't quote me on that. It's too bad that most of that information from the old boards is long gone...:(

pumpers are made of aluminum right? i have worked in a shop that anodized aluminum and electro chrome plated stainless steel, but you cant chrome aluminum, just a "bright dip" anodizing, which is what you see on all aluminum big rig bumpers and wheels.

so were these chromed, anodized or polished to a chrome-looking finish?

That is correct. They have been chrome plating aluminum for years now Josh, where have you been:D

i kinda knew they were, i just wasnt aware how they did it, my old boss only did the cleaner electro pllating on stainless steel for exhaust tips, interior and exterior trim, little crap.
one cool thing with the electro plating, if you leave it in the EP drag out tank after it turns chrome, it will turn green, then blue, purple, red and finally gold before going back to chrome again. i had green chrome tips on my green caravan and jimmy and blue one on a silver focus, should have snagged a few red 3.5" ones, but i had a white r/t at the time.

jackson, pm me the contact info to who did the chrome work for you and a rough estimate as to what expect, price and turn around time.

Hey Jackson, Did you ever find a decent sunroof? I was at the yard today and came across a 86 Daytona with the factory sunroof. The Rubber surround is complete all the way around the glass. The odometer on the car read 41,000 and it looked like it could have been original mileage but it was hit HARD in the side. The paint was pealing off the clips that slide in the front some but they could be pulled off and repainted. I'm not sure if they were the same size through the years though. Let me know if you still need it and I'll take some pics.

^^^BWWAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! They have to get off the island first! Sure, they can make the 90 mile trek to Florida in their rafts and converted trucks, ect., but I'm not so sure they'd get to Mother Russia so easily...especially without papers!
