IIRC, the stock wheels and tires rubbed on the 87' SCs.

You would probably have to go to a 205/40r16 to match the overall dia of the 205/50r15, but that would be a very small sidewall.

I would think that you could get away with some 205/50r16s with minimal rubbing. I believe that omnivore from TD.com had some pretty big 17s on his omni and the rears only rubbed when he had a couple people in the back seat over big bumps.

ETA: 8 valves has some 215/xxr17s on his SC IIRC. I guess it is all a matter of how much rubbing you can handle.

I run 215/40/17's on my SC. I have the FWD coilovers though so there is no rubbing on the spring perches. If your tires are rubbing there, I'm not sure what will fit.

Body wise even slammed like mine I don't rub any body pieces except for the outer case of the tranny with this size wheel.

They are very close there.I want to upgrade the suspension and make it handle like it is on rails.
So do you like those springs ?

Check out the thread at boostedmopar.com in the FAQ section regarding the SRT4 suspension in the front of the Ls. I think I will wait to see if that pans out before I spring for the Konis, but right now they are the best bet.

The rims came off my eagle talon I had.The rims have 205/55/16 tires on them now.So its a pretty good size tire.I don't think they would rub the groundeffects if they were a little smaller.I just don't want to waste any money. But I am going to check out the link.

my buddies 85 had 215/50-15 in the rear and rubbed on compression with a person in the back. Personally I am thinking of 205/40-17 for mine since I will only ever carry one passenger.

Make sure that you pick up rims that are relativly popular. There is nothing to the sidewall of a 205/40 and you might go through a couple. Atleast if you lived in SE MI you would. They will look sweet though.

Not sure if those wheels will fit the L body 5x100.. I think those talon wheels are 5x114.3?

If your goin with a 16 run some 205-45-16 tires.. 17's run 205 40 17..

every size ya go up, go 5 points down on the sidewall..

I recommend using the good old miata tire calculator.. ;)

On my L body, I can tuck 17's with no rubbing issues..

I have 205/40-16's on my Horizon. They look awesome, make the thing look like a GTI.. Only slight rubbing on the rear springs when they're fully compressed (ie hard bump at high speed).. Due to the rubbing problem, I don't think I could go any wider with the stock offset. Oh, and the rims are 4x100 aftermarket alloys.. :)

I don't know if I missed it or not (too lazy to re-read), but I think it's worth mentioning that the stock wheels and tires rub the tranny when you turn the wheels all the way to the right.

If someone wants to host some pictures I have a couple of the 17's on the car with the wheel turned a bit. Not sure if they would help this guy at all though.

My rims from the talon are enkei CDR9 rims. They fit on the car no problem.

CDR9's are a dual bolt pattern wheel, that's why they fit fine. DSM's are 5x114.3, and TD's are mostly 5x100. Those are the two sizes that most wheel companies do when they make a dual patterned wheel.

215/40 17s fit on an L body. It does depend on the offset though. You need a good +35 or +40 offset to make it fit.

Also, a 7.5" wheel will fit, but with a slight rub on the tranny case.

I have done both and had 17s on my car for about 7 years with no problems.

Yup that is right.Thet talon and the shelby used the oppisite holes but they fit.Like you said because they are dual pattern.

The diameter of the following are all the same give or take 1-2% which is within tread wear margins:

205/50/15 = 205/45/16 = 225/40/16 = 205/40/17

Rybrant was smart and used a tire calculator. Just search for a good on on google. They are invaluable when it comes time to choose a tire size. a 205/45 16 is the proper size.

I'm running 225/50/15's on the front my GLHS, stock front suspension, with no rubbing except slightly on the trans cover. The 205/60's in the rear rub if I have people in the back, or in a corner hard.

I'd like to know more about this wilwood setup. What MC do you use, calipers, brackets, etc? Whatever you can is appreciated, thanks.

I have 205/40/17 on my rampage with the stock struts, I think they do rub on the trans,But the trans is also a 523 so it may be bigger than stock,or auto.

You are ring they do rub on the trans, altough I think it is worse with the manual. Before the 17s I had the neon snowflake rims on it with 205/60s on them and at a local autocross in a left hand turn it pulled the crome strip off the fender and with the 17s I havent had a rub like that but it does hit the trans.

205/60s will rub for sure.

205/60/15 is 24.7 inches
205/50/15 is 23.1 inches
205/40/17 is 23.5 inches
