i got this email frommy friend, I know some of you guys work at dealerships and might have an idea of what it might be...?
>It's a 2000 jeep Cherokee sport 4wd, 4.0l.
>
>The mechanic friend checked all the fuses with a handy gadget he has
>that emits a tone and they all checked out fine. Also, he switched the
>relay for the fuel pump with the one for the air conditioner under the
>hood and that didn't help.
>
>I have unplugged and replugged all the connectors to the computer, and
>also reset the battery.
>
>Also, he read the codes with his Solaris computer and states there are
>none, the fuel pump is working fine, it has a crank signal up until it
>quits (it is not cutting out before hand causing the quit)
>
>He says the computer checks out fine, the fuses check out fine, the
>crank position sensor is fine, the fuel pump is fine. He claims it's
>the security system on the car, even though it doesn't have one that I
>am aware of. Apparently he can get on a website called NAPAFIX.com or
>something and it gives him some known issues that cause similar problems
>and this is one he said it called out.
>
>Here is what it is doing in nut shell. If starts and runs, as it starts
>the RPMS rev up to 1,000-1,500 like normal when it starts, as it idles
>back down to idle rpm, it just quits, cuts off and stops running. It
>also does the same thing when you start it with your foot on the gas, it
>runs up to 3-4,000 rpms and then quits after a second or two max. it
>will then start right back up and the process repeats. Over and over and
>over again.
>
>I am lost with this piece, but all I want it to do is run long enough
>for me to get it to the dealer to trade in.
>
>It has been for the last year or so, randomly quiting the same way after
>you start it, but then you wait a minute and start it and it would start
>right up and run..so its something that has happened over time, it
>didn't just start out of the blue.
