We make it a point to get together once a month, have fun when we do watching videos or movies, and usually a trivia question too. We also try to go to the track and events together, etc. To help keep the continuity, we also have a club mailing list and newsletter.

Population density helps too as the Chicago metro area has ~10 million people, lol.

You should move, we could use another fast SC!

Good ideas. We are planning to get some stuff going for the Mid South chapter this spring. I have a few more people interested around Nashville now than I used to have.

It was good, we had a decent turnout, and warmish weather. We had a couple newcomers as well.

We didnt have a video to watch, but MoparMarc had some pics from the Nats on his camera that we watched, and we watched a little football too.

At the meeting we discussed the usual stuff, plus possibly hosting a car show at Meadowdale Raceway sometime...

I left at 10pm (when my idling shadow told me it was warmed and loaded up by belloing out black clouds of 100 octane) and there were still a few hanging out in the parking lot...

There is like either 3 or 4 in the club like it. Mine is not as good as it looks the passanger rear wheel well has a rust hole, Driver rear well has rust and there is some rust in the front wheel wells (one side has a hole in it)

Also were you on I88 this week by the Orchard Rd exit? My old man saw a Lancer Shelby and thought it was me and when he somewhat caught up to it it had a personal plate on it.

See you on Sat. Hope fully I will have the lancer...

I'll make JT bring his EZ-UP and I'll have the garage cleaned out so there will be plenty of space to hang out. The BBQ has a lid so it's all good. I just checked and they are only saying 40% chance of rain. That's a 60% chance of sun :thumb:

Go north on IL Rt 83. If you hit Canada, you went too far.

I remember the first time I met dave. It was like 7 years ago and the club was just starting up. I went to go pick up some parts from him. He gave me his address and directions. (this was at his folks house) he told me not to take 83 from my house as it would take a long time to get there. Well I was not sure on what I was going to buy so I had a buddy with a truck go with me. He decided to take 83 the whole way up. over 2 hours later :banghead: we finally made it to Daves house. He got a little chuckle out of it and I about rung my buddies neck before we go there as I swear that his CD player had the new (at the time) Metallica CD stuck in it and was on repeat! Took daves advise o the way home and it took less then 30 mins to get home to westmont.

See you all at Daves

83 is slow, 294/94 is the quickest depending upon where your coming from, but 53/355 to 83 or 12 isn't too bad if your coming from the west.

Found in an autotrader today a GLHS going for 7900 with 75k. Also was an 89 shadow CSX with 20 miles yes only 20 miles. interior still in plastic. They wanted 20k for it though. This was from a musclecar lot. I dont know if thats way high or not for the GLHS but with places like that having drove up the price of musclecars in the 90's maybe our cars will be worth more soon?

Those sound like the one out in SD, they've been for sale at those prices for a few years now, so even though that's what they are asking, the cars aren't bringing that kind of money yet. I've seen a couple of 86 GLHS' sell for more than 12k on ebay over the last few years, but they were both under 20k miles and in mint condition. Our cars will be worth more eventually, but never anything close to the musclecar dollars.

Yup, drove the neon 10 miles last night and no trouble other than a burned out front turn signal and fussy radio. I gotta call the ins. co today and then it's officially my daily driver. I joined CANOE also, so now I can officially say I'm the bald man in Canoe :D

We were going to Carlisle, but I just started a new job with Chrysler so there's no way in hell I'm going to ask for time off right away. Besides, the two if not three days I'd miss would mean losing out on multiple $100's of pay. Can't have that. :)

Despite less than perfect weather I made it out to the Mopars at the park show in Fox Lake today. Worked on the Omni until 3:30am last night and then got to the show at 7:30 so I could help set-up.

While the Omni is far from done it is looking pretty decent and drew a lot of attention at the show. In the past there has been a weak fwd turnout at this show so all the fwd cars are lumped into one class. We had 10 cars in this class including SDAC-Chicago member MoparMarc's neon, 2 SRT-4's an 03 Neon, an Avenger with strobe lights, a Motorsports Intrepid, 2 PT cruisers and an 83 Lebaron Conv't. My Omni got voted first place in the fwd class with Marc's neon getting second. That's a 1-2 finish for SDAC-Chicago members. I didn't see any other club members there, but overall the turnout was good, despite the weather there were nearly 100 cars and plenty of spectators.

Thanks Barry, hopefully it will be SDAC this year as well.

Not a big fwd turnout at this show typically, but this year it rained until about 9:30am and then was overcast all day so the overall turnout was down from what they normally get. It always falls on the same weekend as SDAC so I have missed it a lot of years, was nice to be able to make it this year.

I don't think Rylan can help you as he is not the current owner and it is out of his name, and state of ownership.

I'm not trying to get into this at all but just some thoughts:

Since the car is in Riceboyler's name, you gotta work it out with him. If the deal was done, why didnt you get the title when you bought it? You got a link to a deal thread somewhere?

vntned
07-25-2006, 05:32 PM
Riceboyler has never sent in the title to get it changed over into his name. He signed it and had it notarized but wont send it in to get it changed over b/c he will be fined. So legally its still in Mr Jensens name. Thank you for trying to help.

BadAssPerformance
07-25-2006, 07:56 PM
If it is in Mr. Jensen's name but Riceboyler signed it then your local DMV (or currency exchange) should be able to provide a form that you can have riceboyler sign and then you sign yourself that releases his lien of the title.

This should be at no cost to you or him other than postage. I have done it before in IL and am sure other states have similar forms.

Since the title is known to exist, and since he signed it away, him getting a duplicate title is illegal. If the title is not known to exist, you applying for a lost title might not be...

I think you should try the route with working it out with riceboyler first, cuz this is a small community, we need to work together!

btw, is there a link to a thread where you bought it from him?

vntned
07-26-2006, 10:09 AM

I hate title issues. I wish you luck in your arduous task. Too cool of a car to be held back by a stupid document. There is too much legal BS associated with older cars these days. They are so anal about registration these days. It doenst matter whose name is on the title if it still registered in your name and they have your plate you can still get a ticket if they get one. Just ranting but these are some of the issues we have all been through. Sorry bout the issue with your ride JT. good luck

We mentioned trying to get up to the Grove on the 30th (wed night) for their test and tune, Mopar is the featured make and that gets us $5 off the normal $28 test and tune price. I'm going to try and run the neon that night to see just how slow it really is.

13.99 or faster and you need a helmet. Otherwise long pants, shirt with sleeves (t-shirt=ok, tank top=no)

The car can't be leaking like crazy or on fire when you tech it, they rarely pop the hood, but if they do they will probably look to see if the battery is firmly mounted and if you've got a coolant overflow bottle in place. That's about it, the grove is usually pretty lax on tech.

Tight lug nuts are also a good idea ;)

Which one are you getting? Just so you know, I have his "TU Dual Performance PLUS Series Ceramic/Organic Clutch". The clutch actually comes from McLeod. The PP is an LUK unit painted red. The inner and outer diameter of the PP and disc was exactly the same as my stock Mopar (Sachs) T2 PP and clutch disc, so I am not sure what the comment "Our custom made oversized clutch disks maximize the contact surface area to increase gripping power" is referring to. If you were to get the organic-only version of this clutch, I'm not exactly sure what it has over the T2/T3 clutch. Perhaps it's in the PP...dunno.

I actually didn't intall the disc because I ordered the wrong input shaft size and was in a hurry to get the drivetrain installed in the car for some reason *ahem*. :p

MiniMopar
08-23-2006, 06:36 PM
I should add that the disc itself is nice, as it has the 6-spring center instead of the crappy 4-spring center of the stocker. I've only ever worn out one clutch. What usually happens it they get clunky and noisy because the springs start to collapse and the center part starts coming apart. Maybe it's the way I shift or something, I dunno.

86lance
08-23-2006, 06:38 PM
i was thinking the six puck clutch kit or the 4 puck i drive the damn car like a race car all the time and it isnt always my daily driver so i figured a stiff chattery clutch wouldnt be horrible some of the time. So basically one of the two ceramic clutch kits he has most likely the 6 puck but we'll see. some one chime in!

BadAssPerformance
08-23-2006, 07:54 PM
I've run 4 and 6 puckers and thay both work decent. I opt for the 6 now as it should last longer.

How well the clutch works is more the PP force than the disc. the Clutchnet 40% over stock set that spun after 4 runs in the daytona has been in the shadow for a while w/o issue *knocks on wood*

Russ, you got a link to that little bit of false advertizing?

http://turbosunleashed.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=97&products_id=180

Not saying it's false advertising outright, but I was skeptical enough to measure it.

I ran a 6 puck in my CSX for a couple of years. It was a bit grabby, but you get the hang of it. It did chatter under certain conditions, but not too bad...it didn't really bother me. No matter how much you heat it up, it grabs like an SOB though. Don't expect to get more than 30k out of it and don't expect to be able reuse the flywheel when you are done. It gets chewed up pretty bad.

I wouldn't do the 4-puck.

Some trans removal tips...

Taking the axles out, if you have 2 people and a 6' pry bar you don't need to unbolt the sway bar... or you can just unbolt the outer sway bar bolts and rotate it out of the way... I usually leave the sway bar bolted up and lay on my back and act like a monkey, pulling down on the 6' pry bar with my legs as I push the knuckle out of the way with my hands, lol... 15 minutes tops.

starter, mounts, and everything else is easy. I usually pull the starter back but not remove it, take the shifter cable bracket off the trans and hang it up with a bungee. It is easier to remove the front and rear mounts (to allow more movement freedom) and support the engine with a cross-fender brace or an engine hoist when lowering the trans. the trans has to move lower and forward to fall out easier.

To align it and get it back in place, I made a clutch alignment tool and also 2 guide bolts (4" bolts with the heads cut off and slotted for a screwdriver that thread into the block where the top 2 bolts go. I lay on my back (head under the bumper, feet under the car), roll the trans up on my chest from the right, and push it up and slide it onto the guide pins, and sliding it home, rocking if needed. Make sure the flywheel turning tool is handy in case the input shaft needs to be indexed. Once it is on the dowels in the block, it can be bolted up then raised up so the mount can be bolted up.

Be sure to use blue locktite on the flywheel and pressure plate bolts. Also, get the flywheel machined, most NAPA's with machine shops around here will do it same day for like $30-$35.

Good Luck!

When pulling the trans you can just unbolt the starter (battery disconnected of course) and pull it out and leave it laying on the oil return pipe from the turbo. It just needs to be out of thw way enough so that when you put the trans back in that it doesnt get in the way...

Here's something I've learned over the years, whenever I'm pulling an engine or trans.

Remove the hoses, axles and other things that leak after doing all the other items under the car, you'll get a lot less crap dripped on you that way.

I used to used the 6 foot prybar and fight with ball joints because I thought it was easier than disconnecting the four outer sway bar bolts. Now I just zip those bolts out with the impact wrench and life is so much easier. I don't think it adds any time, and it certainly saves some frustration. Trying to work the pry-bar with my legs while getting the ball joint in place with my hands usually ended up with a pry-bar going flying across the garage or worse yet, landing in my crotch...

When putting a trans back in, an engine hoist works nice. Put a floor jack under the oil pan of the engine. Wrap a chain around the trans behind the bellhousing, attach the chain to the engine hoist and pull the trans up into place. You can use the two jacks to get the height of everything just right and there is a lot less swearing than some of the other methods I've used. It's much easeir with the front motor mount removed, like JT said.

ok ordered the TU six puck ceramic clutch and its shipping out today!! woohoo!!! just talked to chris pretty standup guy and got right back to me after a couple calls. And what i was thinking for putting the trans back in is im going to let the engine hang down towards the drivers side a little bit and just put a jack under the trans and then lift it into place using some dowel pins. Hopefully when that time comes ill have a buddy here to help me a tad bit hehe. im also using a 2x4 with some chain to hold the engine in place across the fenders. Should be alright me thinks. Da grove here i come, haha

I think the dowels help quite a bit, might need to rotate the flywheel to index the splines... yeah, have a friend over helps, not sure how big and/or strong you are to do the gorrilla method I use, lol.

Unless you use your starter to hold in your rubber freeze plug, in which case the extra bolt may be needed. :) Having a gallon of antifreeze dump on my head was a good time the last time I swapped that trans.

That's it I am sick of the Lancer Shelby. After puttting in a diffrent motor in it this one has a noise in the bottom end. It was a known good motor)

Anybody need any 88 h body parts?

89 Lebaron TI convert parts?

A Shelby Valve cover or 2?

Spearco intercooler kit for a Log intake? and a few more log TI parts (hi-po and stock)

I have lots of parts here (just not what I need to fix the Lancer) I think I am just going to part it and try my luck with something else...

Just jet me know either here, email (shmedley99 at aol.com) or call me on my cell.

the trans and engine are 99 percent ready for the new clutch pressure plate and new TO bearing. all i need to do is install the trans mount onto the body. Install the newly resurfaced flywheel onto the crankshaft . and the clutch is ready to be installed. Then bolt everything back up. So yeah 4 hours or so. Even less if ya wana help Tom. It would be crank time on monday night then driving it 500 miles in less than 2 days, haha The gas money!!!

BadAssPerformance

Gee, wonder how cars that are not street driven can get 500 miles on a new clutch ;)

86lance
08-26-2006, 10:55 PM
lol not gona race the thing till it has at leas 400 miles on it. I didnt talk to chris yet but i was recomended by a few friends/neighbors who have had ceramic clutches to just go like a normal clutch for 400-500 miles of halfway normal driving and it should be fine. so thats what im going to do. but if its against warranty or something than i will break it in according to correct procedure.

Yes she wants a navigator for her Lancer I think. Would go along with the digital dash I put in there... that was(n't) fun to do when I bought the car. At least I had a working odometer and then the car turned into a "low mileage for the year" kind of deal. :)

How can I go about getting that band clamp from you? GTC wants boost! And I want to drive it! It'll sit until that's fixed. No need to destroy the poor mitsubishi. Also, my plan for the thing is a full stock show car kind of thing. So in the spring it's repaint time! And no, not ghetto style. I'm taking it to a paint shop to do it. I've wanted a GTC Coupe just like this one since I was two years old and it was brand new. This car gets ZERO ghetto action. :)

BadAssPerformance
08-27-2006, 03:09 AM
wait i think i just got what you were saying. the clutch doesntneed a break in? lol

Well it still breaks in... more like bedding in, like brakes. The idea is that with usage the clutch disk conforms with the pressure plate and flywheel surfaces.

I have heard a couple different ways to break in clutches. 500 miles is the text book answer, figuring that even if someone drives 500 miles on the highway that there would be enough shifting to bed it in. Now the difference is that most clutch manufacturers say to drive the car easy for a while, and then when I got my RPS clutch it said to drive it agresively.

I am not sure about ceramic but the sintered bronze puck clutches seem to break in pretty quick. The six-puck one currently in my Z went around the block a couple times, up and down shifting about every 3-4 houses, then got loaded on the trailer to go to the track. Couple easy (12 psi) runs on low boost running low 13's and then I turned it up and went 11's :thumb:

Like I said, not sure about ceramic (but I would guess it is similar) but I would do exactly like TU recommends IF they warranty it.

86lance
08-27-2006, 12:02 PM
ok sounds good, maybe ill be going to0 the track after all And Tom ill snag up a zener diode from you but i have no way of turning up my fuel pressure or turning it down if i got larger injectors. Anyways i put the flywheel on and the trans mount in so once the clutch gets here its crank time.

ok after pulling on the clutch pedal and driving it 40 miles or so it is perfect! Engages right in the middle where i like it and grabs like no other. Hell i chirp second without even trying;) Only thing is now the damn car is running hot. And when i mean hot its about 3/4 on the gauge or about 7/8th's on the gauge. but thats only if i am not moving. If im driving it goes back down to 1/2 or 3/8 of the way up the gauge. Im running almost all water and prolly like 15 percent antifreeze. AFAIK the water pump is fine as is the radiator. But what im going to do once the car cools down is flush everything then try and stick the garden hose in there to force some crud out. Im going to do a straight 50/50 water/antifreeze mix along with a bottle of water wetter. Sound good?
