Yeah, I had never been left stranded and forced to walk due to one of my TDs until this summer. it was a mere 5mi. though.

I was humming "I would walk 500 miles." the whole time.

Another couple of good ones, although from a slightly lesser-known band, are Breakdown ("Oh, what a lousy excuse for a car. One mile to go, but I can't push it that far. I think I've had enough. I think I'll give it up!" :p ) and K-Car by Relient K.

Or what's that song by Johnny Cash where he builds a car from all the parts he brings home in his lunchbox? Oh, yeah, One Piece At A Time.

I think we need something a bit more stereotypical 80s, since that's where most of our cars were made and where the famous early 90s ones were bred from.

Some songs I blast in my car with the top down in the summer:

Scorpions - Rock You Like A Hurricane
Van Halen - Jump
Flock Of Seagulls - I Ran
Whitesnake - Here I Go Again
Europe - Final Countdown
Def Leppard - Foolin
Toto - Hold The Line
Rod Stewart - Young Turks (GTA SA Did This To Me)
Quiet Riot - Cum On Feel The Noise
Foreigner - Cold As Ice (My Favourite Pick, Because We Are In Fact, As Cold As Ice (To VTECs))

Rush rocks there's no doubt about it, but I was thinking something more along the lines of I am the Highway by Audioslave, or maybe some George Thorogood like Ride on Josephine.
For the breakdowns and aggrivation, it'd have to be 1000 Dollar Car by The Bottle Rockets.

Van Halen - Jump

Jump is a good song, but the real "car song" on 1984 was Panama. The opening drums are among the best opening of any song ever. :drum:

Is it just a car
Or is it so much more?
It's a superstar
With the gas to the floor.
Zero to sixty in remarkable time.
It's the automobile that's top of the line.
We got a k car on the road of life.
We're gonna get far if the driver's Christ.

Is it just a car
Or is it so much more?
It's a superstar
With the gas to the floor.
In a drag race all the others fall
And Brandon Ebel just gave us a call.

While these are cool suggestions, I penned this a while ago. SIgn it to the Beverly Hillbillies song...

One Friday night I went racin' at the track
A Homo in a Honda started spewin' out some smack
I said, "Hey Boy, wanna race me for some dough?"
The Import Boy replied, "I think your car's too slow"
V-Tech Boy, Cheese slicer wing, Decal car

When we lined up at the tree, I launched at 7 grand,
The Home in the Honda was windin' out his rubber band,
I looked up in my mirror at the top of second gear,
I saw the import ricer boy 10 car lengths in my rear
FWD, Intercooled, Turbocharged

Once back in the pits I wanted Ricer dude's cold cash
All the little ricer boy did was cry and pee his pants
He'd lost so bad he whined and asked "What the hell did you do?"
I smiled and said "You got a heapin' helping of my Turbo 2.2"
Intercooled, turbocharged, Ya'll come back now, Ya hear?

Daddy ran whisky in a big black Dodge,

Well him and my uncle tore that engine down

As cool as Blood Sweat and Tears are, and other tunes out there... nothing is more fitting than Judas Priest's "Turbo Lover."

I'm not the hugest JP fan, and would rather listen to BS+T, but gotta admit, the heavy tune has all the right attributes. I haven't heard/noticed the K-car song.... that one sounds like it fits like a glove as well (or almost).

My favorite band is Yngwie Malmsteen (and Dream Theater) and would rather hear one of their's as a theme tune, but like I said... picture a noob coming to the forum and Turbo Lover pops up. Just has the bestest theme to it (of course... my opinion. But like I say from time to time: everyone is entitled to my opinion)

Johnny Cash Hurt: (Modified by turbododgepirate)

I hurt myself today
to see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
the only thing that's real
the Piston tears a hole
the old familiar sting
try to kill it all away
but I remember everything
what have I become?
my sweetest friend
ever dodge I know
goes away in the end
and you could have it all
my empire of parts

It will let you down
It will make you hurt

I wear this pentastar of thorns
upon my bucket chair
full of broken parts
I cannot repair
beneath the stains of time
the feelings disappear
boost is somewhere else
I am still right here

what have I become?
my sweetest friend
every dodge I know
goes away in the end
and you could have it all
my empire of parts

It will let me down
It will make me hurt

if I could start again
a million miles away
I would keep my neon
I would find a way

Thanks Cordes...

This calls for a re-write... Simon's Song Remix:TM theme extended edit.

Got those bust up worn out turbo bearing blues.
Try to get ahead but I always seem to lose
She's belching the smoke of hades
and I've tapped out all my maybes,
Ain't nothing broke what can't be broke some more.

I can't seem to keep drivin' what I choose
I sure would not wish anyone in my shoes
Corrosion's eaten out my head.
Right after my block crapped the bed,
Working damn hard just to even up the score.

(for the L bodies)

And when I think I'm in for some good news,
Ran a twelve and thought she'd take some more abuse,
I got a cal and flashed the SMEC
But getting out I hit the deck,
'cause my foot went through the rusted out floor.

(for the P bodies)

Now the CSX wasn't styled by no Chip Foose,
But I like to plant my foot and let her loose,
Found a window scraper on eBay,
But when I got it fitted today,
The hood pops up everytime I slam the door.

My transaxle started slipping while in boost,
In hydraulic terms I guess it blew a fuse,
I worked all day, put a used tranny in,
But first time out it threw the pin,
There's a peloquin in my future now for sure.

I just can't take these broken mopar blues
With my wrenching time I thought I'd paid my dues
This metal's always cussing me
I'm gonna need a fixing spree
Gotta hope to find myself a decent core

This time I'll make good'n'sure there's no excuse,
I'll chase the bugs, exorcise them damn voodoos,
New headgasket, valve stem seals,
Save for the best and miss some meals,
I was never rich but now I'm fricking poor.

Gonna spin some nuts and tighten up some screws
Gonna soup her up and give her some more juice
Gonna buckle down and do it right
Gonna wrench all day and wrench all night,
Ain't nothing fixed what can't be fixed some more.

That is by far the best origional work ever brought to one of the theme song threads. You have got to put that one on tape too!

For Frank/Bucar/Slasky/etc:

How about Knights in White Satin by the Moody Blues, which contains the line:
"Gazing at people" :D

To the tune of "1985" by Bowling for Soup.

Daytona, Lebaron
Before Eclipse and Talon;
There were two-two's with T3's,
and Omni's built by Carrol Shelby.

These riceboys in high school,
They tell us that we're uncool.
We're still preoccupied
with 1985.

AWESOME! I LOVE THAT SONG!
And yours too!

I'd say "Cool the Engines" by Boston is appropriate.

Well I like takin off
Don't like burnin out
Everytime you turn it on
Makes me wanna shout

We keep gettin hotter
Movin way too fast
If we don't slow this fire down
We're not gonna last

Cool the engines
Redline's hittin near
Cool the engines
Better take it out of gear

I'm no fool gonna keep it cool
Take it day by day
We don't know where we might go
Until we make it all the way

Take me for a ride
Take me all the way
Take where I've never been
To some place I can stay

Don't get yourself too hot
Don't get yourself too high
If we don't slow this fire down
We can kiss it all goodbye

To the tune of The Beach Boys, Little Deuce Coupe;

Turbo TWO TWO
You don't know what I got
Turbo TWO TWO
You don't know what I got

Well I'm not braggin' babe so don't put me down
But I've got the fastest set of wheels in town
When something comes up to me he don't even try
Cause if I had a set of wings man I know she could fly
She's my Turbo TWO TWO
You don't know what I got
(My Turbo TWO TWO)
(You don't know what I got)

Just a Turbo TWO TWO with a 16 Vee mill
But she'll walk a stock Five O like (she's) it's standin' still
She's ported and relieved and she's stroked and bored.
She'll do a hundred and fifty with the top end floored
She's my Turbo TWO TWO
You don't know what I got
(My Turbo TWO TWO)
(You don't know what I got)

She's got a competition clutch with the five sixty eight
And she purrs like a kitten till the Turbo spools late
And if that aint enough to make you flip your lid
There's one more thing, I got the pink slip daddy

And comin' off the line when the light turns green
Well she blows 'em outta the water like you never seen
I get pushed out of shape and a lot of torque steer
When I burn rubber thru the first three gears

She's my Turbo TWO TWO
You don't know what I got
(My Turbo TWO TWO)
(You don't know what I got)
She's my Turbo TWO TWO
You don't know what I got
(My Turbo TWO TWO)
(You don't know what I got)
She's my Turbo TWO TWO
You don't know what I got

omg..i cant BELIEVE no one has mentioned the BEST SONG for these cars.. imho.

Arrogant worms- horizon

From the deepest, darkest depths of...whitby!
Comes this sordid tale of speed...
Murderous mayhem..
Cataclysmic combustion...
Picturesque powered pistons...
Accellerating automotive alarms...
Stunningly stupifying stereo stunts!
One man... a dream... a car... a 1984... plymouth... horizon...

I loved the car from tail to grill
I wouldn't change a thing
I wouldn't trade the ashtray
For the queen's engagement ring
But things they started going wrong
And went from bad to worse
The clutch went kinda funny
Then i couldn't use reverse
Still i loved my baby
And would not admit defeat
Just because it left a trail
Of rust along the street
It kept on running bravely
On duct tape and a prayer
Plus a monthly tribute to
The guy who did repairs
It all seems so unfair (the man was glad the day he bought)

Horizon!
Horizon!

Till one day on the parking lot
They called 401
My car became the meat between
A buick-honda bun
I saw some parts go flying
That you really need to drive
My car had become roadkill
Though it never was alive
Left a muffler in the passing lane
A hubcap in the slow
The windshield on the median
A headlight in the snow
And as i skidded off the road
The other drivers laughed
My middle-finger greeting
Would be my epitaph
Death would come at last (here lies the man who dared to buy)

Horizon!

Now i look at my bent fender
The twisted wheel rim
I wonder if horizon
Will ever drive again
But i know that this was not the end
Road warriors die hard
And i signed this mr. iacoca's
Organ donor card
The steel will get recycled
And they'll build another car
Bigger, faster, stronger
An automotive star
My quest will then begin
And revenge will soon be mine
As i drive my gleaming three-door
Orange chrysler frankenstein
Searching for that buick
To try to end its days
We'll settle off the score
And then we'll drive away (the sun will rise again on the)

Horizon!
My horizon!
My horizon!
