My buddy Warren raced my son's 1990 Sundance at PIR last night while I was racing my minivan. My son is only 15 and won't be able to drive at the track until next year ;)

Warren was one of the crowd favorites of the evening whipping a WRX, a new GTO and a newer Corvette :thumb:

He ran the cars best performance to date with these times:

13.47 (1.85 sixty foot!!!)
13.48
13.51
13.54

It's a 1990 Plymouth Sundance T1 non-intercooled 2.5 with these mods:

No exhaust after the downpipe
Dawes Devices overboost cut eliminator
G valve boost controller
89 air filter box assembly with no filter
TIII clutch from Gary Donovan
23 x 7.5 M&H slicks also from Gary :)
17 psi boost
50/50 mix of 114 racing fuel and super unleaded

And a pretty talented driver IMO :thumb:

We were tipped over at the performace to say the least....LOL!!!

We're going back tonight......we'll try to get some videos ;)

Man that's a fast car for just a starter vehicle. What'd you run, Terry?

Yeah......my son is jazzed :D

We have under $1000 in the whole car :thumb:

I ran a new best of 12.06 :)

A $1000 car that runs mid 13's is pretty cool. Mitsu turbo?

Thats awesome. When you ran a 14.0 I was impressed with a non intercooled. Both me and a friend have run 14.4 and 14.6 non intercooled. Mine with my 88 Sundance 2.5, and he has a 90 Shadow 2.5.

My 14.4 was with a 2 1/4" exhaust too, 15psi, slicks, tII/tIII clutch... thats IT, no fuel mods/addatives. You are now putting my car to shame. My next idea was to unplug the wastegate and run some racegas and see what happens, but its my daily driver so I do not want to mess anything up... for now  My track has bad elevation, because when you ran your 14.0 our mods were almost identical.
Wicked car anyway =)

We went back out last night and Warren blasted a new best of 13.36 @ 99 :thumb:

I'll have the video processed by tonight :)

Everything is completely stock except what I already listed above in this thread ;)

The car weighs 2500 lbs. without driver
Slicks at 12 psi
Boost at 17 psi (out of fuel pump above that so....no going higher until we install a pump)
Timing at 12 degrees
Autolite 63 plugs gapped at .030
Shifts at 5200 rpm
Launch @4000 rpm

I just gotta say that Warren is "THE MAN" behind the wheel of that stick car :thumb:

How are you not melting pistons at that boost level with no AFPR, Walbro, etc? Is the 114 octane race gas the only thing saving ya?

An AFPR is not really a required item but it is nice to have.......I still have the stock fuel pressure regulator on my 12.0 minivan ;)

I set the car up using my OTC scanner watching the knock retard and O2 volts. The scanner tells me I can't run anymore boost until I replace the stock fuel pump at this point :)

I won't lean on a car real hard without a good quality fuel in the tank. I've done all the wrenching that I care to do so I prefer spending a little money on good fuel rather than replacing head gaskets and pistons ;)

You sure about that? My pal's '90 VNT car converted to S60 ran the stock pump on 20psi boost and 271whp. It is a '90 pump which is the same as the T-I, T-IV, and V-6 cars.... are the earlier pumps more limiting?

I need to do more testing to confirm it's the pump but my O2 numbers are dropping below the minimum that I like to see ;)

The pump has over 100k on it so I'm going to swap it out just for safety...LOL!!!

Our Sundance IS a 90 :)

I believe 90 and up pumps have a bit more in them.

Congrats and a warm welcome to Warren...good luck finding a turbo car to play with!

Good deal, that Sundance is haulin' for being a non-intercooled Mitsu.

As far as fuel pumps go, we're running 19/20ish psi boost on my brother's '89 Shadow ES S60 2.5/auto, but it does have a honkin' Cummins cooler up front. Fuel pump seems to be working fine and supplying the motor's needs. Although I keep telling SOMEONE it should REALLY be upgraded.... http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif

It could be that our pump is just tired from miles ;)

All I know is that my O2 voltage is dropping below the point I like to see as a minimum :)

I still need to put a fuel pressure gauge on the cowl and check it to see if it's holding or not.......it may just need bigger injectors ;)

I still plan to replace the pump just for safety reasons :thumb:
