The last engine i removed was an 8v almost two years ago. Now that im dealing with a TIII i thought i might as well ask....whats the best way using an engine hoist to remove both engine and tranny combo? also what would i need to take off the engine?

thanks

i bolted onto the a/c bracket and then used the hole for the thermostat housing(must remove housing first).

Some things I should add:

1. Notice the lack of pullies...they are easy enough to install later and will probably scratch your inner fenders up if you attempt to drop the engine with them installed.

2. The driver side of the lift chain is bolted to a bellhousing bolt hole. The area of the head that hits the lift chain is protected by rags/rubber to prevent the chain from damaging (marring) the head. The TIII head is large and overhangs the block somewhat making this difficult but I didn't want to chance using a bolt hole on the cylinder head itself, potentially damaging the head. A large hook works nicely on the passenger side.

iturbo: im guessing your installing it from the top?

is easier to take the engine from up top or should a drop the k frame?

Definately in/out from the top.

I would also remove the front engine mount bracket. Less chance of swinging into the rad that way

I remove the radiator all together. No chance of ruining it that way. Plus you get a little more room.

Definatlely a good idea to removed the radiator. The Lotus head is x-flow and the intake sticks out way too much. Also, there is a reason I left the motor mount bracket on. The '91+ cars use a different motor mount arrangement and the mount actually on the lower radiator support. The front motor mount bracket that bolts to the engine isn't as bulky as the earlier cars. Plus, if you decide to install it later (after the engine is in), it's almost impossible to get a torque wrench in there to get to the bracket/bellhousing bolts.

When I put mine in, I removed all the pulleys, front mount, intake, exhaust but left the rad, IC etc in place. Tons of room.
