Should I drill it for the number four again or can I go into the swingvalve like the O2 sensor? Stock mitsu going back on.

Some people say they get higher EGTs in #3, some still use #4. You want the temps about 1" away from the head, in the manifold, NOT in the swingvalve. You give up a lot of heat between the head and the swingvalve so the temps wont be as accurate.

So, IMO, take your pick, either #3 or #4 runner of the exhaust manifold.

I use number 4 because number 3 is being hampered on flow enough as it is with the big indentation thats there in that runner.

I have mine in #3 since so many people who are going fast have stated that 3 runs the hottest in their cars. I would use caution in angle at which you drill the manifold though. To far one way, and you will run into the block. To far the other way, and you won't clear the stater.

Good luck which ever you choose.

#4 here, 1" away from the head.

can anyone show an angle/mounting picture of what the probe looks like in the manifold. i have my head off now and i was thinking of tapping for a egt guage now so i dont have to rip the head off later when i get one. anyone know the size of the egt guage probe, is there a common size or should i pick a guage first then go from there.

I use #4. If you are going to tap the hole make sure you angle the hole so that the probe won't be too long and hit the other side.

i went in the bottom where the starter is right into the middle of the collector (cwon't come out w/o taking out the starter), most i see go in the driver side into the collector

I've heard that having the probe in the collector gives either a higher reading than what it really is, or gives the probe kinda a spuratic reading which throws it off.

i've had mine in number 4, number 1 and the collector, and never noticed any notable difference (1500 at 27# with 50 shot), however, i can see your argument. in all reality, the only useful info i get from the egts is when the tune is money. i use the wideband to tune the car, note the egt, and then log it and make sure it doesn't differ when running race piss w/o the o2.

When I tried it, I didn't notice a temp difference but I did notice the probe a little slower reacting.

is this about how/where the probe should go for future reference:confused:

awh dang i relized i drew it into the #1 cylinder well you get the point but in #4 does that sound correct

Looking at the cylinder head with the exhaust manifold attached, I put mine in the top of the runner, just after (maybe 1" back) from the head.
