Well its been awhile since I stripped the car down for a quick paint job, that of course exploded into a resto project.........The car is right now at the body shop awaiting paint, but I thought I would give you guys an update on everything.

Here is the car when I got it in Nov 05:

looks just wonderful doesn't it?

after driving it for its first ever winter, and bunch of misc engine problems later....We had a cleaner looking engine bay:

Then I got fed up of the peeling paint and no lower airdam, so this happened:

After a lot of work we rebuilt the engine:

a lot of powder coating....

The engine rebuild wasn't too wild, everything is rebuilt or new, some of the specs/parts are:

-86 TI block, TII rods, TI crank
-stock 86 TI head, slider cam
-87 TII turbo
-89 A555
-FM GLHS wiring conversion
-GLHS Stage II LM
-3 wire o2
-1G talon bov
-TU 3inch swingvalve, and full 3inch exhaust
-stock 89 TII clutch
-stock 86 charger passenger's side axle with a swapped 89 big spline end at the transmission, 89 omni driver's side axle
-smaller 89 style starter
-FWDP billet thermostat cover
-omnipotent stainless turbo support bracket
-aurora spark plug wires
-new battery cables modded to run gm style side post

I'll have to get pics but we got the front k-frame sandblasted, then epoxy primed then coated in chassis black. Redid all the bushings, ball joints, new rack, tie rod ends, hub bearings, etc

I just ordered the carpet, and I am taking the other rear panels, and headliner to get redone next week. Also picked up a NOS sunvisor set, NOS driver's side seat belt, and NOS turnsignal switch. I have also found a guy who takes the stock door seals cuts off the corners (he reuses them), and them attaches new weatherstripping to the rest to make a basically brand new door seal.

I got a set of 6.5 inch crab wheels for it too,

If it runs I'll be happy:)

great to see another TD undergoing a resto! very nice work, and your list of engine upgrades is also impressive, you're going to have one great shelby charger when its all done.

That car is looking nice. It will be wonderful to have a project like that completed I would imagine.

Looks great. I love it when people get real detail with the engine parts, sand blasted and powder coated looks so pretty and stays that way.

Looking forward to more pics.

Did you strip all the paint off your engine bay? I sure wish I did. We thoroughly cleaned mine, then scuffed it before we sealed and painted it. I had to repaint the radiator support top panel because the paint started coming off. Now it's coming off the strut towers. I think it has to do with oil and grease getting into the 20 year old paint. Under the hood is the only place the paint is coming off.

I first degreased it with some varsol, then scrubbed it with a scotchbrite pad, then took some 400 grit sand paper and went to town, went down to primer in most spots, then cleaned it up and my body man sprayed a new coat of black.

Hopefully mine doesn't peel:(

You might be alright then. I'm going to pull my motor and trans out over the winter and redo my engine bay.

KEVIN take a look at abrasive blasting the area with 220 grit silicon carbide, that'll allow you to get into every nook and cranny right down to the factory primer/sealer (or even bare sheet metal if you need to).

it's a messy process but nothing beats it for thoroughness.

I finally got some pics of the paint, its pretty good, no where near perfect, but at least I can drive it around and not worry about a little chip, etc It's a bit dusty from sitting:

My bodyman forgot to paint the grey stripe on the front, but he's going to fix that this spring

I love the fact my SC has no sunroof, it seems all the other ones up here do, it breaks up the stripe too much with a sunroof.....

When I had my 87 I was going to have a vinyl stripe put over the sunroof glass to continue the look.

thanks, now I have to get those crappy tires/rims off there. I have a set of 225/50/15 Toyo T1R's with 6.5 crabs to put on. After Xmas I plan to pick up a set of koni coilovers from FWDP too, as there is too much gap between the wheels and the fenders....

I'm going to try to get some pics of the a555 rod shift linkage that a local TM guy fabbed up for me. (I think his username on this site is shadow)

It looks great. Most people don't take the time to contour the corners of the stripe correctly.
