Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a 1990 n/a 2.2 common block non-crossdrilled with no balance shafts?

There are a few things I know about it. It doesn't have the fuel block off plate so cb it is. It doesn't have the crossdrilled holes either so it is in fact non-crossdrilled. It has an oil drainback tube custom installed. As to the balance shafts, they aren't there, but how would I know if they've been removed? And is the n/a cb as strong as the turbo blocks?

Thanks

Yes, its called an Omni, :thumb:

I haven't seen one so I don't know if the BS thread holes are not machined or what. So if you look at the crank side, you will either see one or two sets of bolt holes, like a 4 bolt main if it had them. Non CB's also had no block off plates so thats not really a way to tell. Theres a date on the back of the block, under the starter towards the front. Yes, N/A CB's are just as strong as turbo blocks, there the same, just missing some machining. Thats why its called a CB, Dodge did it to save money.

The n/a cars didn't all get the crossdrilled coolant passages until 91-92 from what I've seen. None of the n/a 2.2 common blocks came with balance shafts.

Like Simon said, it's just as strong as a turbo block, only with the above differences.

I just checked. The date is 9-1-89. What visible differences are there between 2.2/2.5 if any?

None really besides the crank and BS's I think.

There is a laser type etching on the flat spot above here the trans would attach (hard to explain and read). But you can find out if it is a 2.2 or 2.5 if you can read the etching.

Cool, I will check then. There is also a number in the back near the date I wrote down. Not sure if it has any significance though. There is a two digit number under it also.

Block there is no differences etc 2.5's have BS's and if the crank is still there, then look at it, the crank says 2.5 on it.

I checked the side where the trans mounts and this is what the etching reads as far as I can tell: 0en1247770270 and then far to the right looks like a 1. It's definitely hard to read though. Is there somewhere I can check that number? I have the fsm if that would help.

There should be more. Possibly right above that. It's very hard to read.

Does anyone have a pic of balance shafts on the engine or where they mount on the block? The fsm showed nothing. I'm 95% sure it didn't have them though.

Here is the underside of my block:

Theres no holes for the BS's so its for sure a Cb non BS engine.

SWEET. That's what I wanted to hear. So that would indicate it could only be a 2.2?

Also if you look at that pic, at the bottom of the block next to the second from left main and right next to that oil pan threaded bolt hole there is this diagonal hole that is not threaded. I can't tell if the oil pan gasket covers this when mounted or why it is there? It looks like it is far enough from where the gasket goes that it would leak if not plugged.

I'd say it's a 2.2.

Do you have the main caps? and are they numbered? (These questions don't relate to 2.2/2.5)

Yeah, all 5 are numbered.
