There's a blue/silver SC on eBay right now and the gentleman says that there is a number on the bottom of the door jam sticker showing number 808 after the build date. Here is the image:

http://i21.ebayimg.com/04/a/000/77/9a/7828_4.JPG

Here is his response to my question about how he determined the number:

Hi.....I have a friend that is suppose to be very knowledgable about vehicle safety certification labels. He pointed out the last line on the label, as per included photo, indicates the MDH (Month, Day, Hour) that the car was manufactured and the number within a series of color styles that were produced. Thus, 021107....808 means 02m11d07h....808n. This number does not add any value to the car. It is nothing like the numbers given the 1000 Shelby Chargers that Carroll Shelby bought and turned into GLHS's with his signature and number attached to the dashboard. Thanks for your interest.

Now on his auction, it states it is number 808 of 843 made in that year (1985). Is that correct, and if so, how many individuals here have overlooked that on their own cars?

Just thought I'd bring this up as I did not know there was any designation of this sort applied to these cars.

Hmmm.... Billy comes up with another good one.

Have no idea what the 808 stands for but in no way did Chrysler "stamp" the door jamb sticker with a color production number.

Time for folks with 1985 L bodies to go look at their car and post what your sticker shows.

That's the first of heard of that number, never even really looked at that label very well on my cars personally.

That does look like pretty nice car despite the mileage and a few flaws.

I don't have any Chargers, but I have 5 Omni's at home I can look at tonight.

I doubt 808 means anything. My L body also has 808 after the other number. The guy is full of crap.

Well its not so much he's full of crap, that's the information he's been given. How many in that color scheme were produced that year? Does that statistic even exist?

BTW Steve, I messed up, should've put this in your question of the day thread! lol...

I wonder if 808 is the Chrysler plant number?

C'mon L body owners go outside and look at your car and lets solve the mystery.

+1 on that, it's extremely nice!

I'm hoping an '86 silver with blue stripe Charger comes up on eBay in the next year or so that is an a/c delete car and has the sun shade and sound package. MMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

So Steve, could that be the plant number stamp? Did the guy at least get the 021107 number correct in his response?

I'm more partial to the blue with silver stripe myself. I have one right now and its nowhere near as nice as that one. For the money I'd snatch it up. Its tough to find an unmolested,"unmodified", a/c delete car. A black 85 SC was my first car so I always have a soft spot for these.

Silver blue/Blue silver either way for me.

Well I contacted a guy who worked at Chrysler until 1991 and his job was to install those decals after QC'ing the cars but he doesn't remember what the numbers stand for.

My best guess is that it could be the plant number. Since all L bodies were built at the same plant they would all have 808 if this is the case.

So does anybody have an L body that doesn't have 808 after the MDH?

Of course I see this thread after lunch where I was messing with my driver's door over break. Doh!

I used to know what all those numbers meant too but forgot. It's not anything related to a sequence of cars I do know that. Still a very clean looking Charger for that many miles. But it hasn't been run in 12 years if I am reading it right.

029113 942 I believe is what I read on my 87 Horizon. They're kind of faded.

I think you're reading it wrong. It says, and I quote "You are bidding on an 1985 Dodge Shelby Charger that is 22 years old and has been garage kept for the past 12 years".
