Its a retainer of somekind and might explain why they were $4+ each instead of the $2 or so I was expecting. Everything I've used to look up valve spring retainers for a 3.1l chevy comes up with those things aswell so I am getting a little frustrated. I can find the right ones under Gm goodwrench performance parts (http://www.gmgoodwrench.com/perfpartsjsp/partlist.jsp?cat=9303&section=ep) but I can't find prices. Not even sure I can walk into a dealer with one of those parts #s and order anything.

Hmm, I'm sure I've never seen one of those before. Almost looks like a P-38 can opener.

I would say try giving the dealer the GMPP part number. Can't hurt, and they should be able to order anything from that catalog, just like with us and MP.

FWIW, I had similar luck putting together my ex's Cavalier. Took 3 tries to order some simple exhaust flange bolts and no luck. Finally had to make my own.

I just called GM, those #'s are good GM #'s. I got a dealer cost at around $4.70 each so not sure how much your local dealer would charge.

is that a pushrod guide plate? with no mounting holes? if you walk in you should be able to point the part out on a printout/monitor. though i've never had any problems jut ordering parts from the dealer over the fone(for shop delivery) maybe our parts guys were better? you can prolly take in a dodge retainer and tell em what engine you need them for. good luck! it's a good combo when you get it!

Wild looking retainer. I will see what I can dig up for part numbers.

Thanks. Since it now appears I am in for a full engine rebuild I am not in any big hurry. Probably won't even get back to the dealership for a few more days.

none of my 3.1L engines have anything like that, and i've had the heads completely disassembled before. could possibly be used on the newer '94+ 3100 VIN 'M' engines though?

EDIT: you might try asking over on the 60degreev6.com forum.

95-99 Code M engines have conical valve springs and use the retainer I listed above, :thumb:

LS1 retainers can also be used.

If you go through www.acdelco.com and look for a valve spring retainer for a 99 3.1l lumina what they gave me is the part number that pops up on the website.

RETAINER,LOW BLOWOFF VLV SPR
Thats what the website calls it. part #24208782

Thanks again Simon
