When my Daytona was new I would cruise the strip near home every Friday and Saturday night. Yes, I'm old now and so is my car but I still have it running everyday. So anyway, a Z28 1986 I believe it was pulled up next to me at a light. My car was brand new out of the box and completely stock. He was revvin' it up so I said let's do it. We hit the skinny peddle when it turned green and it looked so bad for him all he could say is oh "you got a turbo" yeh I do but he had a 305ci v8. That's when I fell in love with the Turbos

Yeah, 145 or 165 HP in 4000lbs, the '89 V6 minvans can hand 'em their butt. I've done it in my '88. The IROC-Z version was a bit warmer.

Ya Iroc-z are crazy my brother has one and brought it to the track and ran 15 flat and he wasnt even beating on it if he was to launch it better he would of been in the 14's easy.

The mid 80's 305's were real dogs. I had an 84 Mustang with a 3.8L V6 3spd auto with fuel injected carb that would blow their doors off. Not sure what GM did to the 305 then to make them so slow, because I had a 78 Monte Carlo with a 305 that was pretty darn quick. No way the V6 Mustang I had would've been able to hang with it.

Bwaaahaaaa just realised the straight 6 250cu was making 50 more HP at the time LOL

That woulda been so freaking funny back then if you bought a new stripper 1500 series truck with the 6 banger, and your buddy bought one of those z28s and you coulda left him in the rearview LOL

I never found them to be that hot. My Shelby Z gave a 1st gen LT1 a real good race when I 1st got it. All I had done was the exhaust from the axle taken off. I wasn't even used to my shift points + got turbo lag and he still only managed to put 2 car lenghts on me through 2nd to 4rth. No too great for a 275hp car imo.
