Well it happened. I lost another street race! I think this is only the second time I can remember since I bought the car in '03! It was an '07 Mitsubishi Eclispse with the 263 HP V6, against my 2.5L Omni GLH Turbo. We raced from a dig up to around 70 MPH and he got about 1/2 car on me. I admit I was pretty shocked but I'm only pushing about 8 psi right now.....this poor 2.5L TI engine has nearly 230k miles and smokes at WOT so I turned the boost down so the motor will live a little longer. It just won't die!! I would be surprised if my Omni even makes 170 WHP nowadays..

hah while it's a win for him. You still lose with a bit of a chuckle when you're only running 8 psi. Not a bad showing!
He won't know what hit him if you run again with a fresh motor and some boooost!

I SMOKED a really nice looking one going up a hill on a bridge in my RT, it wasn't even close. I wouldn't have even bothered except that the lady driving it was driving like a madman and looking around like she was the $hit. Hell, I'm sure if you could run stock boost you could've gotten her a bit with the 2.5 T1.

I wouldn't feel that bad then.
Just let that dude gloat and then look for him with a fresh engine................. he won't know what hit him.:thumb:

the worst is when you forget that you've turned down the boost. Realizing 1/2 way through a race when you look at your boost gauge, as the other car slowly creeps by you. :(

I got beat by one in my van on 18psi. Don't feel bad, those run low 14s dead stock.

Or when you've got the boost up a touch too high and keep bouncing it off of cutout during a race. Had that happen recently.:o

That's the great thing about driving an Omni, the dude still can't go back to his buddies and brag. To the rest of the world telling people you beat an Omni in a race gets as much respect and streed cred as saying you just beat up 80 pound retarded girl while she was sleeping.

hahaha oh wow. I've heard some good analogies but that one right there is just classic! hahahaha If I did the sig thing, it would be a winner :D

that's why for 20 yrs i have been saying, "you can't loose a race if you drive an omni."

The same applies to a turbo minivan and many others in the turbo-mopar family, that's what I love about these cars.:thumb:

low 14s? You sure about that? Those cars aren't light and 260crank hp in one would probably nip high 14's. My friend owns a tuner type garage here in Maine with a modified Cobra (503whp on stock blower) and another tuner shop did an install of a supercharger kit. Thing dynoed like 220whp after it left the shop. I think he tuned it on the dyno to the tune of around 260whp when done and the customer is pretty happy now.

iturbo... is this glht the one you posted of the nice intercooler install? Why T-I now?

Yes, same car. The car has always been T-I; but for the last three years it's had an '89 2.5L T-I, which was intercooled shortly thereafter. It does have a T-II top end from a Masi TC, including the Garrett turbocharger though. The shortblock is from an '89 turbo Caravan.

Pretty well actually.:)
It's pulling daily driver detail until I can get back to work and spare the money to get the tags switched over to WV on the Sundance. Then it goes in the garage for some much needed TLC.:)

you would have gotten the eclipse if you were running full boost, so nice job anyways!!

on a somewhat related note... my GF picked up a 98 Eclipse GSX this weekend, with a good amount of stuff done to it (and done tastefully and nicely as well) i was hoping to have my omni out last weekend to race her. i figure once she figures out the stutterbox launch and how to shift faster, i won't stand a chance with my GLHT2 even at 18psi. bummer. i need to race her SOON before she gets to be a better driver.

If it's got Masi TC parts on it, it's da bomb:eyebrows:

^^ lol

and yes new v6 eclipses weigh something like 3600 empty and run low 14s at ~99mph stock. they're a bit slower than a stock srt-4 in the long run and of course launching a fwd open diff land yacht with a 6 spd and a 3.8 thats makes big torque off idle isnt easy, but once rolling they are fast.

still too damn heavy for me to get excited about, tho. they weigh more than my full size 4dr intrepid.
