View Full Version : 26" slicks?

I've got a set of 1.22 transfer gears. I figure that with 26" slicks, I'd get about the same final drive as with my current 1.06 transfer gears and 22" slicks.

So, does anyone know if the 26 x 8 x 15" slicks will fit in the Daytona wheel wells?

The thing I would be worried about is the tire clearing the strut spring perch? I am running tires that are 25.7 inch's in diameter and I probably have 1/2 inch to go before hitting.

That, and I wonder about the width. The M/T's are 26 x 8.5 x 15, but the max section width is supposed to be ~9.9" (!!!). Not sure that will clear at all.

But, I do have a set of BFG drag radials on now. They're also ~26" diameter. But I don't think they're 9.9" wide. I'll have to measure the clearance with them when I get the front end re-assembled.

9.9",

If they work, holy traction Batman,

Well, the tread width is only 8.1", but the max sidewall width is 9.9".

But still, that much sidewall should net better short times, I would think...

Sorry, read that wrong. 9.9 is pretty tall, should really help your traction, :thumb:

No, the tread that will be on the road will be 8.x" but the widest part of the tire (where the buldge in the middle is) will be 9.9"

Yeah, I know, see post 6. :p

i have that exact tire on my csx. 26x8.5x15 M/T if you get a slight offset rim
it'll clear but your turning radious is the same as an 18 wheeler. it'll rub bad
against the rocker inner fender area.

That's good to know, thanks. I think I can deal with the turning radius.

What kind of short times do you get with them? Better than the 22's or 24's?

well, i don't know for sure cause my short times are with blown rear shocks i eventually found out...2.3 60' spinning almost 1/8 mile no kidding!! i recently installed new gabrial air shocks so the rear will be nice and firm and i should be in the 1.6-1.7 area but i have to wait for the track to open to find out..
unless i can arange some time in my buddies shop parking lot with my G-force meter for an estimated short time...

I run the m/t's on the van 26x8.5x15's and I run standard offset with spacers and longer wheel studs. They work great! 1.7 short times in a van.

Cool, thanks. How thick are the spacers? I already have a set that are about 1/8" thick...

1/4 inch spacers.

Joe O'conner runs them on his Daytona. Not sure what work he did to make them fit. He does have spacers and long lugs..

Yeah, I already put the long wheel studs in. They're required by the NHRA/IHRA anyway. Have to show at least 3 threads...

Do tell, really? I guess they worked, if so, that saves me some money on not having to buy new wheels if the 22's don't work out. What tire pressure?

hey vanman with my experience's so far, start at 10psi and go from there.
when i first tried them i had my psi at 20 cold cause thats the only way i can load/unload my car from the trailer, and i forgot to depressurize to 10psi.
well after my run marcus86glhs told me how much pressure am i running and it dawned on me, uh oh, i knew i forgot something...:banghead: :banghead:

Screw the perch. Convert to a coil over and not worry about the tires rubbing the perch. And if they're soo wide that they hit the springs, just get a set of spacers and widen out the track of the tires.
