Finally got back to my GLH rebuild after a year at college :amen: and it looks like whoever painted my engine also painted the mating surface for the oil seal retainer...

I'm assuming this is a problem, or can I leave it, and just use sealer? I'm a bit apprehensive to use sandpaper on it, since it's probably got pretty tight tolerances... Paint is also on the water pump surface, so what about it?

Thanks guys

If it was powerder coated, you'll be ok. Just use a rag and some brake cleaner to make sure its squeaky clean.

It wasn't powder coated, it was engine enamel, painted on.

Ok, then remove it. Use a rag and some carb cleaner.
