ok well i found out why i have a blown head gasket . took the head off today and this is what i found . there are 3 pistons that a melted a little , but b4 i pulled the head i did a compression test and i had 150 across the board . so i'am guessing i did not mess them up where i cant run them , would like to know if you guys think they will be ok . from what i can see down the sides of the piston they look ok . just looks like the top took a beating . the motor is a 2.5 with 3000 miles on it with some wisco pistons . aslo look at the head it pretty beat up too . you think that can be welded and milled flat again or just replace it ?thanks

i wouldent re-use the pistons, they are gone. the head can be cleaned up

i'm undecided. They may still have compression but once u get it going again they could heat up again and score the block up.

man, how did you manage to nuke a 3,000 mile, built-up engine?

I did it on a 1000 km engine lol. Cept mine was dead for compression after.

There is nothing wrong with those pistons, some slight heat issues but they will still work perfectly. The head is another matter, I did the exact same thing with my JE's, leaned out big time but rerung it, new head and good as new.
If you dont' want to reuse those pistons, I'll buy them cheap,

That head definitely looks a bit "iffy" at the fire-ring...

Find out why you leaned out so badly, that was at least 1700 egt's I would guess.

yeah , i think theres some thing wrong with my fuel system

did you have any way of monitoring your air/fuel or EGT's? If not, I would buy and install one before you get that engine running again.

Ya think? :banghead: :p

If you don't have any guages, nows a good time to get some.

With what Simon said, reuse the pistons. Get new rings, get a ball hone and clean up the cylinder walls. Look carefully at the top of the bores, you may find melted aluminum from the head stuck there, remove it with emery cloth, or it may chip off with a knife blade (carefully)

I melted some stock cast pistons WAY worse than that! After fresh pistons and rings and a ball hone job, it is running fine! 1000 miles since it had an oil change, and has not used a drop.
