hey guys,

I have seen others modify the 2 piece fuel rail and also see some aftermarket rails such as TU's. My question is when is it needed to upgrade or modify the 2 piece rail?

Is there a page covering the modification of the 2 piece rail? some info would be appreciated. tia - dave

I was told by a couple of people that 300 whp is the safe ending to using a two piece rail... but I used it to make 370 whp. Now, maybe it wasn't optimal and it was playing with fuel distribution to each cylinder. That's all I know about it though, only hearsay, and iffy at that.

I modded mine but never took pics. I took out the little 1/4 in line inside the rail. Personally, if your not good at welding or don't have a good welder, don't bother. Last thing you need is a fuel leak at full boost, :banghead:

Its really simple to do, you need to drill out the rail at either end, then cut the fuel rail in half to release the last weld, remove the 1/4 inch tube and weld it back together.

I have a modded 2-pc intake fuel rail if you're interested in trading for a good condition stocker.

Good question! I don't have a need for it, and I have an '87 CSX in need of a stocker. Want to trade Simon? :thumb:

My thoughts on modding a rail..

remove the end baffle with the threads on it, find a fitting to replace that with a barb on it. use that side of the rail (driver side of car) for the fuel feed. take the original fuel feed line and weld/braze it shut and use the return/Fpr as it was. how does this sound?

Jt: if i decide not to do this, I would condiser trading, drop me a line when you get that rail reamoved - dave

Ok guys, fuel goes in the passenger side, goes down the 1/4 tube to the left side which either has a pulsator or a capped end. The fuel then does a 180 and now goes out the injectors, then out the return line. I figured out where to drill and would drill just larger than the 1/4 in line on both ends. If you have the pulsator type, seeing where to drill is a piece of pie. Some have that little 1/4 tube tack welded in the center so then you have to cut it apart and reweld. Brazing doesn't work, I tried that.

How can you tell if you have the tack weld in the middle?

Simple, if after you've drilled the pipe at both ends and it won't come out, then its tack welded, durrrrrrr, :p hehehehe

I'd simply buy a billet rail. In all my dealings with the 2 piece rail, they are fragile and almost impossible to find in good shape. I gave 2 to a buddy of mine for him to look into fixing for his own use. I have 3 more here... All with the same hairline crack.

JT... Do I see the LRE response kit on that red car??

Wheer are all of yours cracked? by where the passenger side mount attaches to the pipe?

Nope, not LRE kit on it. There is one guy in Chicago that does have one on his mint '87 GLHS tho.

Yes... Passenger side by the mount... Not right on the mount, just slightly inboard seems to be where the rail is weakest..

Thanks for your input on this Ken...it is now what I'm going to do for my car. I don't like the idea of fuel rails cracking...and I'm already having problems with the fuel rail for my 2-piece intake.
